HDR pictures only accentuate everything on the picture, not make it look like a painting ya know? just curious as to what else he did

I think that's all he did. After tone-mapping, one should always go back to pshop and finish the PP like levels, sharpening, etc

Too bad about that light post partially growing out of your car. It would've been nicer if your car was back a bit more or the lamp was totally gone

Those are just reflections. It's not the camera LOL..it's the time of day and your composition.
