The King has been Dethroned!?!?

The "entire package"

It is a sad day, but we all know you cannot stay at the top forever, and someone is always gunning for your spot. read on below

That describes the MS3 to a "t". Great interior, great build quality and great performance. American Cars are getting better but they still think that interiors are secondary. As a daily driver I doubt the Chevy could hold a candle to the MS3. IMO :-)

The 0-60 and 1/4 mile times vary from magazine to magazine on every car. I wouldn't lose any sleep over one source that claims the SS is faster than the Speed3 by a fraction of a second. It doesn't make the MS3 any less of a great little sports car. It's still the same little thrill machine it was back in 2007. These cars are close enough that the driver will decide who gets the better numbers.

I wish nothing but success for the SS. I hope it sells well and earns a reputation as an affordable bad ass sport compact. The exotics, luxury cars, and V8 muscle cars think we're a joke. We need more SS's, SRT-4's, Si's, and Cooper S's. They are our sport compact brothers and they will help advance our class of automobile.

I like and appreciate all types of cars. I just happened to buy an MS3 because I was in the right place at the right time. No matter what you purchase (cars, computers, cell phones, TV's, etc) something "better" will come out by the time you've read the owner's manual.

I've always had a soft spot for the Cobalt SS and this turbo version (sub par interior aside) almost fulfills what the last one should have been. I'd still rather have an MS3 as its an overall better package but the Ecotec is a proven reliable motor while I still have my doubts about the 2.3 DISI.

All I have to say is, they put this motor in the Saturn Astra 3 door and I'd be very interested.

Still, gotta love that the MS3 has 4 doors though.

"Faster Than a Mazdaspeed 3
The 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS uses up just 5.8 seconds accelerating to 60 mph, and it goes through the quarter-mile in 14 seconds flat at 103 mph"
i call :bs:

wtf... drivers race right here speed3 is right there with the ss t/c

its okay. too bad they offered it without a new face or body...
but you have to give them a tap on the back for performance and handling. brembos are a nice addition as well. article states a 4 door is in the works too.
another desperate move from a despeate company

good job chevy i guess, no lift shift our cars and u run a 13.8-14.0. and supposedly our cars can handle that. cool but i cant wait to see the interior in person, the old cobalt (pukey) very plastic and cheap...

I saw this car at an Auto show and said wow. Good job. All it really is, is a Saab engine. I mean it's been worked but it's nothing amazing. I still think OVERALL package the MS3 sits as the reigning king for it's price. Only plus I have over the MS3 are the brake brands but then again the MS3 does have wicked brakes from the factory.

ps-also so what if it's faster. Put just an intake on the MS3 then see what happens. LOL Ownage.

Hmm, what did Edmunds really think?....

"Here's the Problem: Looks Matter
We can't stop talking about how well the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Coupe drives. GMPD has made up serious ground in the sport-compact wars with the 2008 Chevy Cobalt SS. This car is quicker than a Mazdaspeed 3. And the price difference is all of $20".

"This is when we feel a twinge of sadness. The Cobalt SS has become a surprisingly cool car, but cool kids aren't going to give it a chance. The SS is stuck in a Cavalier-style body that just doesn't resonate with them. Poor interior packaging and down-market furnishings make it worse".

A Chevy Cavalier that, while it may be fast, is still a Chevy Cavalier that will fall apart before you pay it off. And, it will always look and feel like a rental car. This was a 15 minute test drive by Edmunds, and if they felt it was cheaply built and furnished in that short amount of seat time, just imagine how bad it would feel after 2 years of making payments on it! lol! It is WAY overpriced, IMO. THe only reason this car tested faster in 0-60, and 1/4 mile times is that it has 225/40/18 tires on it! No indication of what the top speed is on it, but I highly doubt that it touches 150 mph.

Edmunds didnt say ms3 has been dethroned. it says cobalt ss got its 15 minutes. Maybe that is it...it is its time to shine, but who know what car will outshine it next...or maybe ms3 will turn out to be shinnier.

I'm glad that chevy is upgrading their cars, because they always look like s*** to me. But this new cobalt is going to be pretty fast after parts become available. The ecotec engine is a rock, and it can make some power, but I don't know about the trannys. On the other hand, I'm not worried that it is or is going to be faster than the ms3. The inteior & exterior look can't compare to the ms3, power is not everything(Caliber srt4 comes to mind).

Every time I look to buy a car, I look at the japanese brands, I don't even remember that there are domestic cars out there. If I was going to trade in my ms3, more than likely it would be for the new Lancer Rallyart.

Yup, this thing is in the same class as the Caliber SRT. BTW, had a Caliber SRT try to race me on the freeway on Easter. lol! That thing looks hiddeous up close. Looks like a bunch of jr. high kids stole their parents suv and tried to make it look fast. Gawdawful!!lol! I would have to see a Cobalt up close, but if it as anything like last year's SS, it won't be very impressive in person.

I thought the SRT-4 Caliber was the new "King"...? (huh)
Its still the most powerful FWD car out there...

Of course putting everything else aside...
