Tornado Rips through Downtown Atlanta

LOL the weather shifted and everything went just barely to the south of us...one road up is getting hammered

How's this?

Wow - that's an eerie photo Eric!

We got a call around 3:15 to head to Six Flags to set up grid and help with setting up the course. Well, got to where 20 and 285 meet and got caught in a really bad hailstorm. Traffic was at a standstill (greedy bastids hogging the overpass to keep their cars from getting damaged) and we just got nailed. It was really scary - both the prospect of glass breaking and the fact that we were stuck and couldn't move forward. Called and someone told us that everyone had already left the lot because of the weather! Got home and the roof of the P5 is pretty heavily damaged. Looks like someone took a ballpeen hammer to it. :( Not sure about the carbon fiber hood - who knows what is happening under the paint. Thankfully no glass was broken...

That's my friend Lee's newly-purchased P5. He's the tall British guy that made it out to one (or more) of the Athens wrenching events with his Midnight Blue P5.

I heard that a Tornado had touched down in Jefferson, and while it was nice and sunny where we took that picture (down the street from my house) those dark-ass clouds probably were in the direction of Jefferson!

These are fast-moving storms. 10 minutes ago, raining like hell with significant wind. Now, bright sunshine and my yard is a swamp:

Crazy. I need to head out to get Dru and Lucas from the airport, but I don't really want to get caught in one of this "train of storms" along the way!

Well, Joyce Anne, maybe the P5 is faster now with the dimples. You know, like the dimples in a golf ball are for aerodynamic purposes!

I'm thinking I'll move the air filter on the van up into the engine bay, out of the bumper and take it to the airport. That way, if I hit deep water, I won't hydro-lock, and if I get hailed, I get the van repainted or replaced by insurance! The only concern I have is the taller/less stable vehicle in high wind, but I'd hate to smash up the P5 over a little rain!

This is one of the ads on weather.com right now:

So, I guess this week we're just ******! ;)

I was in Winder celebrating St. Pat's with the family when it went through Oakwood. There was golfball sized hail there. Which is awesome... except we drove my GF's car. I got back and I got some paint chips on the hood. I forgot completely to look at the roof because we were in a hurry. Funny, Jefferson was smashed with storms but Winder just had a ass-ton of wind.

I asked to stop by the apt to reconnect the battery terminal (which I forgot to do this morning). I am about to check the weather channel again.

That sucks, JA. I'm really sorry.

I was parked on the street near at Ga Tech when the hail happened. My car is totally undamaged (watch as a tornado hits the garage where I'm parked now).

Tomorrow should be clear, thank God. I haven't autocrossed in months.

ugghh i hate hail ruined my SHO when i was in PA...really creepy when you live in a trailer too (yes i was trailer trash for about 9months lived with a lady whos real name was martha stewart)

The CF should be fine at most needing a new coat of clear.

The plus side to these storms....cheap new car due to hail damage sales

Well, it was full ground-stop at ATL, so they haven't even left DC yet. I coudn't get the CAI filter off, so I'm just going as-is. I'm still taking the Van, though. Don't want to chance it with the P5.
