cleaning black front facia trim?

I got some wax on the front must mustache and the fog light trim, whats the easiest way to keep these things black?

I know there is some product I saw at Walmart called Back to Black or something like that. I can't remember who makes it. I'm sure somebody knows what I'm talking about...

It's in a little red bottle and is great on all sorts of plastic and rubber. I use it on all the black plastic on my car. Mirrors, honeycomb grille, foglight surrounds, tailpipe surrounds and that rough black plastic along the bottom of the rocker panels. I even pour it in the window mouldings and let it run down. Keeps them black and pliable. Soaked a microfiber towel in it and wiped down the cowl at the base of the windshield. It looks new now.

A little dab on a microfiber cloth, and some light rubbing will get the wax out of the plastic. I love the stuff.

Back to Black is just a protectant (a cheap one at that). You'll need to take some warm soapy water to clean the plastic. Follow up with a better UV shield like 303 Aerospace or Vinylex on that black trim.

There's also a product by Turtle Wax called "ICE" which is a clear liquid and will make the black plastic shine pretty well.

You can use the product over the entire car after you've waxed it and you don't have to worry about keeping it off the black trim

^ that is a wax in itself and it does wonders for black trim peices.

dont use TW ice. its a waste of your money.

yes since its synthetic it doesnt affect your trim, but the protection factor isnt there.

back to black covers up the wax marks on black plastic and doesnt remove it. you could try using dawn on the black plastic trim to remove the wax, because dawn is a degreaser, and could break it down. but dont wash your car with dawn, because you will remove the oils from your paint

for a durable wax, thats good for biweekly applications try meguiars nxt2 wax. it has cleaners in it, so you cant layer it, but its a great product nonetheless.

There a product called "Black Chrome" sold at most autoparts stores. It is a black bottle with a chrome label the size of a ketchup bottle. It is for black rubber mouldings and plastics. I've used it and it is OK.

You need to use something to clean the plastic. Soap is fine.

After that, put a quality PROTECTANT on it. Half of the stuff people are mentioning here just add shine, they don't block fading from UV light.

This is why I recommend stuff like 303 or Vinylex...it's like sunscreen for plastic/vinyl/leather. It is not greasy like the other products.

I should add that different protectants offer different levels of shine. You may want to test them out in an inconspicuous area first.

Vinylex is very glossy (not good for dashboards), 303 is more of a low to medium gloss. I prefer 303 because it looks more natural -- Vinylex makes it very apparent that you've got chemicals on it.

It sounded to me like he was asking how to remove the wax he got on the plastic trim?? These things are nice but in the end you will still get that haze of the wax residue in the crevasse of the trim. It may sound funny but use the eraser man it works..... Then shine away with any of these fine products

a good product as well is stoners trim shine. its OTC and pretty good for the price

hey im just letting you know, the white will return after about a week or less. it doesnt remove anything. so dont be surprised when it returns
