Dammit! Tree fell on my new Mazdaspeed3!

WOW! Sorry for the damage, man. I feel fortunate to have just hit a beaver in my silver MS3! I feel your pain regarding repairs, I take mine to the adjuster this week when I get home from Germany.

hehe...i'm sorry, man, but i have to lol every time i hear about that beaver...it's just so random! not even a deer! (pow)

I grew up out in the sticks. I've seen beavers that were close to the size of large dogs. They are vicious. That's a no shitter. I had a friend whose dog was killed by two beavers.

I've had dreams about two beavers before but was totally unrelated to the killed pet thing.

(huh)
What about the garage? The benefits of having a house is that you park in the big open garage!!!

Yehbut people fill their garage up with junk and park their cars out on the driveway, which I always found funny.

I actually have a garage, but it's occupied by my Mustang and my gf's (black) Ford Escape. I figured her vehicle needed garaged more because of the color.

I almost hit an alligator that was crossing the road in my moms truck when I was in high scool. That would have been a cool story.

Sorry to hear about the tree on your car dan1101. I would cry if something like that happened to my baby.

Yeah, I'm driving around a Kia Optima rental car. It's a mid-size Honda Accord clone as far as I can tell. Kia/Hyundai did a decent job with the car, it has various nice features. But it's so ******* boring, I didn't even feel like coming to work today.

My car is now at the body shop, should be hearing an estimate today. Insurance adjuster thought about $6,300, but he thinks the body shop will find more.

Talked to the body shop, their estimate is only $5,300, but 6 or 7 weeks of time, depending on how fast they can get the body parts. It'll be freakin' spring before I get my car back. Oh well, that's one way to keep the miles and wear and tear off of it! Plus don't have to worry about salt and sand getting on it.

As long as they do a perfect job (and this shop is supposed to have that rep), I can stand the wait.

Why such a long time? Are they replacing the roof panel? I remember back in the day when I worked at a body shop, a job like yours would be done in no more than two weeks...and the job was perfect!! The car manufacturer's standard was that you could not tell the car was worked on; had to look factory...

I think thats an awful long time... But if they are a small shop and busy, I guess I could see why it would take that long. If they are going to replace the roof panel, have them make it in carbon fiber like the EVOs... (lol2)
That would be cool (hood, roof and tailgate in carbon)!!! (2thumbs)

Yeah it's a small family-run shop. They're replacing the roof panel, and they said they often get damaged in transit and another needs to be sent. I think a lot of the time is just time required to get parts.

Wonder if anything but the front bumper of the Mazdaspeed3 is different than the Mazda3?

Carbon roof might be cool, I don't like the carbon hood look.

This last summer a serious storm came through here. I saw it coming on the weather radar and went to move my MS3 fron under a HUGE silver maple. Then I thought I might as well just go have a cold one or two and watch the storm roll through. I got about 2 blocks and all hell broke loose with whole trees falling into the road in front of me, behind me, and huge branches flying all around. I saw several cars crash into downed trees but I luckily found a "tree free" piece of frontage that was safe enough to ride out the storm. Aside from being without power for over 2 days it wasn't so bad as what you have to suffer with your car.

Oh, the garage was out of the question since it was directly under the maple tree ,which dropped only one limb out of harms way.

Hood, bumpers (f&r), fenders, and rear spoiler.

You could always paint the carbon fiber to match the color of the car...

Forgot about the hood. Didn't realize the fenders were different. Guess that's part of the reason we can't get splash guards.

for it to be done right, if he's found a good shop, the time spent on the car should be the least of his worries. the quality of the work is of SUPREME importance with such a new vehicle and those types of damages, and if they have to take that long to do it right, let them. i'd say 90-95% of the shops in the US do work that would satisfy 90-95% of the people. it's the 5-10% like me that need to find shops within the remaining 5-10% to get quality work done to my expectations. another thing to note is some shops like to overestimate time needed instead of underestimate. It's a strategy that many prefer.

regarding the CF...you are looking at wrestling with fitment since i believe it'd be custom, extensive costs, etc. And to paint CF after all that work, that would require even more work to assure that the surface and pieces are of a good enough quality to offer a good flat surface once painted a uniform color. plus, it would be very hard for the end user to do considering the aesthetics of carbon fiber and the minimal gains. you have all this CF on your car, it's gorgeous stuff, you gain a loss of a few lbs of weight, then you paint it to hide it. but then you have dark panels on they car, so it's a tough deal either way!

if it was just a hood, i'd paint it. if it was multiple custom pieces in a line like that, i'd probably not paint it.

anyway, this CF talk is ridiculous!

+1 on the CF roof panel. They have one for the mps - silver/carbon is always sexy

sucks about the damage though
