FP-DE/FS-DE alternate OEM spark plug recommendation

i used the 6's but they were not hot enough for my car, so just try it and check them to see what works best for you

I am unbelievably happy I ran across this thread. I just about bought some Denso Iridium IK20 plugs just because of their reputation, but I do believe I'll pass and grab some ZFR5F-11s. From the sounds of it, the 5s should be OK for a stock to barely modified MP3. Many thanks to all of the contributors.

After reading the "theory" of spark plug mods, it does make sense that with better better combustion = improve performance even slightly. I'm just wondering if someone knows if i need to replace the wires/ rotors and everything else that connect to the plugs or just the plugs will be fine?

I got mine today, I had my 30k service and upgraded my plugs with ZFR6F-11s. Now I got a smoother ride, maybe because of the 30k service or the plugs but one thing is for sure, I feel better when driving it now...

thanks again for the input guys...I am learning a lot from here...

ok after reading this i saw that people went back to the stock plugs and it ran better. so my ? is should i upgrade the the longer plugs or stay with stock

Mine runs better with zfr5s...it's worth a shot, not going to do any harm, and plugs are cheap, so you can always switch back

Switched mine last night from the Denso equivalent stock plugs to the ZFR5F-11.

My radar detector used to rattle horrendously on the windshield at idle. Not anymore. Acceleration seems smoother as well.

After 25,000 miles on the Denso plugs, 2 of them increased their gap to something like .049" while the other 2 only increased their gap to about .044-.045". All plugs were gapped to .043" upon initial installation.

Well I read the first post, and sounds interesting...is this advisable to do this on a MSP?

What would code do I look for in copper and one step colder

I've posted on this before... DO NOT USE THESE IN FI motors. The extended reach greatly increases your risk of detonation. We've watched it on the J&S safeguard switching betwen plugs there is a clear difference in detonation between them, the extended reaches are much more prone to it. Great in cold weather, for idle, start, etc... but very dangerous when the boost levels rise or the car goes lean.

Hey Steve which plugs are you referring to?

Any of the Z series plugs... any extened reach version etc. ZFR6F and ZFR7F being the main ones people use (the -11 just indicates the pre-gapping of the plug)

I don't disagree that they are great at idle and in cold weather etc, but under heavy loads they are bad news and most people will never "notice" the problem.

What plugs would you recommend using?
