Installing a CP-E Downpipe...any advice? Tools Needed??

Look, just a little insight. BUt you have a 3" DP going into a little less than a 2" and half pipe. Yes you should be getting some horsepower none the less but it is going to feel a little weird at first. YOu need to open everything up.

What do you guys think...? Is the stock cat-back hindering me at this point? Here is what the DP to cat-back looks like:

I know that as far as HP, it should only yield roughly 5HP; not really worth the additional $500 when I could invest in a TMIC or high flow fuel pump for less than that with better benefits...
What do you guys think? (huh)

Cat back is more like 15-20 hp not 5

I have been told by every aftermarket exhaust manufacturer that gains from a cat-back only are roughly 5HP...that its just a sound mod for people wanting a different exahust tone...

(thought) I guess I just answered my own question!!!! (lol2)

Though it bugs me to see a massive 3" pipe interfacing with a smaller 2.5" pipe; looks horrible...

the stock catback has 2 round resiantors and 1 square muffler looking resinator, if you look insde you will see hundreds of little wholes that catch up the air and disrupt flow, i removed all of these and i definiatly got MORE than 5 hp, turbo spools better i woud say atleast 10 to 15hp. the sound however is 10x better, roars on throttle but not to loud off throttle.

Please explain how you came up with the 10-15hp figure. If you say you felt it, sorry, but that doesn't cut it. Just cause I take a bit s***, that doesn't mean I can run faster and jump higher, does it? I may feel l like I can but it's all in my head. (beer)

I too have always been told that a CBE on THIS car would only produce about 5hp. Spend what you want and do what you want (spin)

I am a little dissapointed that CPE never responded to my statement. Saying that an unfinished pipe (on the inside) doesn't affect anything is false. I wouldn't care how the outside looks, it's what actually comes in contact with the elements involved with making the car go faster is what's important.

Besides, the pipe is on the bottom of the freaking car. Who cares what it looks like....I just want the max power possible out of any upgrade.

How did you remove the resonators...? Did you upgrade the exhaust or just hacked off the parts?

Corksport has claimed on their own system 20 hp gains and CP-E claims 30 you would be suprised at what you can get from a free flowing exhaust on a turbo car.

CP-E's claim is with the whole TBE; downpipe and exhaust will yield 30HP... I don't know about Cork Sport. And as I've been told, 25HP comes from the downpipe and another 5HP from the exhaust...

I don't know this from first hand; just what the vendors have told me...

it could be in my head... but if you look at the resiantors and use just a litttle common sense you can see they catch up alot of air and disrupt flow, so you can say " this doesn't make anydifference" thats your opinion....

its easy bud, just go to a muffler shop cut them out there is 3, 2 oval shaped and the square shaped one by the bumper, replace with straight 2 1/2 pipe. 80bucks or something, you will not regret it..

Thanks. (thumb)

The stock DP has a heat shield on it that I couldn't take off due to not having enough leverage, the bolts are pretty tight... I hope the pictures give you an idea. The stock piece is soooo heavy compared to the CP-E catted downpipe!!!

you should get the rest of the cpe system to go with it, it doesnt make sense to have the bottle neck against the stock cbe. Manufactures hp claims are normally on a stock car as they yield the most impressive results, i believe as you get further into mods you will benefit from a larger dia pipe as you push more power.

just my $.02

Edit: see my sig, the tbe didnt do much but i think it will def help later on. if i had done the tbe first then the results would have been more impressive.

I'm seriously thinking about it...though I wouldn't go with CP-E (even though I like their design) because its sooooo expensive; another $685!!!
(omg)
I was thinking about getting the Mazdaspeed or the Cork Sport for $450.
But I think that will be later on after I do the TMIC and the CDFP.

But I do agree with you that I need to do it... (2thumbs)

make sure it is stainless steel or it will corrode where the 2 dissimilar metals join.

Both Mazdaspeed and Cork Sport are stainless, though the Mazdaspeed is not polished...

Thanks for the tip!!!

Hey, does that TMIC really make a difference...in terms of dyno butt? Can you really feel an improvement?
