2008 Mazdaspeed 3 GT
http://bellengineering.net/Pages/products_MazdaSpeed3_parts.html scroll down about half way down, and there it is. A very nice looking piece.

Well, I got this installed and dynoed today. There was about an hour or so down time between the last before pull, and the first after pull. There was less than a degree difference in outside temperature between the first set of pulls and second set. All three runs were pretty consistent, before and after. This is on a stock 08 mazdaspeed3 gt, with the exception of the TRZ dog bone, which doesnt do anything to change this.

Pre-dyno showed
238.1 whp/260.28 ft lbs

After dyno showed
256.59 whp/286.41 ft lbs.

As soon as I get a litlte more awake(I didnt sleep at all, and passed out as soon as I got home, just woke up), I will take a picture of the dynograph and upload it to the site. I don't have a scanner, so hopefully a picture of it will be good enough.

I was very surprised to see that it did this well, I wasn't expecting this much. The turbo spool up sounds great. I really like the cleanliness of how it looks installed.

Awesome!!!!!(thumb)

kinda cheap looking if you ask me. So they stuck an adapter with a filter on the stock hose and call it an intake? The gains are there just liek any other intake mod for the ms3. Whats the a/f ratio look like? Is there a maf straightner or will thing throw lean codes once you start raising the boost

They don't really call it an intake, just a cool air box. I agree with you that it's an extremely simple idea, but I think they perfected it. Sorry for the noobness, but I'm not sure if there's a maf straightener, but I know that there is another car that has all of their products, and the boost was increased, and to the best of my knowledge, it never threw a cel. I think that it's a really nice looking piece, way better looking than anything else anywhere near this price range. when you hold it, it's nice and sturdy. The welds look amazing, the filter is a K&N, so we know there's no problem there.

hopefully your knn is not over oiled. Members have been having problems with gumming up mafs. Just keep an eye on it.

I’ll be swapping my ms cia for one of these soon but installing the cpe maf housing with it. aem dry filter would be a good addition also.

I like the higher location of filter much better, yes its simple but brilliant.

People spend way to much time an effort on damn intakes. Put one on and be done with it.

I think a box like that would benefit more from a smooth tube intake going into the box.

you may be right, but then again, i'm not sure. It makes plenty of sense, I just don't know how much it would help. Maybe the gains werent worth the extra cost/trouble.

I'm extremely happy with it, the car feels a lot more powerful. I can finally say that I feel first hand why everybody says that it should come with an intake from the factory.

You got a nice increase so don't let laloosh's bitterness about something or other put you off. If you don't know the story about oiled filters, they come fine from the factory but sometimes cause problems when the owners overoil after cleaning. Also, per Stephanie they haven't had any problems with CELs due to running the same size MAF housing. This is not the case with the AEM/MS-CAI which has a different size housing, or so I'm told.

I been running the local dyno for a few years now and see little differnence if any with intakes on turbo cars especially. Now not saying there isnt a big differnence over stock because there is. I mean s*** I gained 10whp just drilling a 4inch hole in my stock box. But come onn 300-500 dollars for some of these intakes is a JOKE! I would put my ebay fugita intake against any intake out there on the dyno, and I feel the 200 I paid for it was to much. Spend your money else where vs. dropping it on all these different intake designs. I woulld be glad to prove my opinion to.
If people wanted to send me a few intakes I would be glad to do an intake comparison on the dyno. I have unlimited access to a dyno beings my friend owns one. If you guys can part with your intake for a week or so and send it to me Id be glad to test it.
Right now I have the following.
stock modded box
spectra custom intake
and fugita, Ill test it sri and cai.
Lets see how far people wanna go to test these badboys out. Ill cover the dyno bill.

For me, tinkering with stuff gives me something to do, i enjoy spending time and effort on things. i guess you missed my point it has nothing to do with power or money, infact i would guess i will loose a little power when its all done. When i bought the ms cia, the begi was not available which is in my oppinion a better (safer) design. I'm sure i can sell the ms cia to recover part of my loss.

MS CAI

This isn't the CIA. LOL!

Anyway, the Begi looks like it is missing two critical components:

an air straightener or velocity stack

a smooth bore hose to the turbo.

The Cobb provides both of these, so that is my choice for the moment. It wouldn't be too hard to make a cold air box for this car using fiberglass as a mold though. You just need to make a wood form for the mold core, then 'glass a final shape...then you can make copies out of f-glass or carbon fiber. It would be easy. You could also buy thin sheet aluminum or steel, and bend a good box cover as well.
