1972 Datsun 510 (56k best of luck)

lol. Yup just got back from being on vacation. I got my cotter pins and hub covers so I'm going to work getting the front end on and I need to fix my cherry picker so I can start looking at putting the motor in.
 
Even though I want an SR for mine, I am having some serious engine envy right now...
 
lol. Well don't envy me yet. Mine isn't running. Going to have to get new cams. I have some s14 cams sitting around, but not sure I want to run them. I found some street cams that are only 300 for the pair. Might pick some of those up. Trying to decide if I'm going to take the head off or not. I really don't want to.
 
Take the head off. It will give you peace of mind not wondering what could be lurking in there....
Much easier to do before it gets dropped in...
 
I think I have pretty much decided to shoot for a VQ35 swap. It will actually fit easier than the SR20 and it is not as tall and has never been done in a 510 as far as I could find...
I fond a place at the Formula Drift competition this year that specializes in VQ swaps for 240sx's and they make some pretty trick stuff.

They make a pretty neat shifter mount that takes quite a bit of length off the trans...
 
Good luck on that man. If you get it in there, I'm coming to N. Cali for a ride. If I ever get a 620 I'm going to put the supercharged frontier motor in it. I thought about doing the VQ swap in a few years when the motors have dropped in price.

What a great project. I've been looking at 510s lately. I was thinking either to do a 510 or a BMW 2002.

One of my cousins is doing VQ35 swap into a 98 S14. He blew the KA24 months ago. Now a VQ35 in a S14 is just going to be sick.

I'm surprised I have not commented in your thread.

Yeah price and convincing the wife are a big hangup to overcome.
I am a bargain hunter. I figure someone has a wrecked 350z or 3.5 Altima sitting somewhere in the bay area that they just didnt want to see go to the scrap yard, and will sell it to me cheap.

Wait, the 3.5 Altima is FWD.
I am so tired I cant remember what cars the motor is available from....

LOL I will. I actually worked on the garage this weekend to give myself more room to work on her. Now I need to rebuild my hoist and I can test fit the motor.

Trust me I know about the price thing. Luckily my wife doesn't worry about the project car to much. She just gives me my allowance and says have fun. Then gives me s*** for the car sitting for to long. lol. Yeah I would look for wrecked 350s and coupe G35s.

I wish I had $$ for an allowance. I hate my mortgage. But hey, I own a house in one of the most expensive places to live in the country! Yay! (yupnope)

I need a second job to finance this if I cant find a donor car cheap.
There is an all Nissan Wrecker in Sacramento who I am gonna try to get in good with. I could get a "jobber" price through my old boss too..........

It is just so exciting to think about 3.5 liters of DOHC goodness... I cant contain myself.
Maybe I am biting off a ton more than I can chew. I will just cut it into overpriced sushi size pieces and take it one inari roll at a time.
Oh well.

(No I am not asian...)
EDIT: I didnt notice the birds nest on the firewall shelf above the clutch M/C until today. Keepin it classy, pacific northwest hippie style! You treehugger.....(gtfo)

Lol that is nice cleaned up now. Luckily she gives me an allowance every pay check. :). Just need to pay off more bills so I can get more. Or take that job in Iraq I've been told about.
 
check car-parts.com every junkyard int he country.
Cant be to bad to find one in a junk yard. one of my friends actually found one in a san diego jy. he pulled th eentire interior (was all leather) and sold it for 3 times he paid. it was all clean. car i think was hit rear or something.

I haven't had much time/money to work on the car since I've been getting ready to leave country for a year for my new job.

But I took the valve cover and oil pan off the motor. She isn't beautiful, but she looks good. I was going to try and drop her in before I left, but my engine hoist is dead. Hopefully over the next year I can update the thread with parts I've been buying and get her running when I get back.
