getting my aftermarket stereo installed. Using the Scoce kit. Sub amp under passenger seat with a mod to heater vent so it will fit on top of it. 4 channel amp where stock amp was, and a EQ next to that. And a custom sub box in the right rear cubby hole in back. Seperate tweeters in top of door panels in front and 6" mids in doors. Rear doors get 6x9 coaxials (lef tovers from my Magnum) or I woulda used rounds. And coaxials in very back pillars. So fronts are running 4 ohm and backs 2 ohm load. Pics when done in two to three days.

You had the standard audio right? You must be loving the new sound! I know I am, sounds wayyyyyy better than the Bose, and clearly absolutely no comparison to the string's on a paper cup they call an stereo, the surround sound that comes with my new Head unit makes me feel at home again.

I had to add in tweeters, to the rear doors so I could have the best stage. I'm thinking about 31/2 in the rear too, for that extra mid range.

No, I had the premium Bose that wouldn't even play mp3's. So now I have a Kenwood KDXc890 with a Kenwood 4x60 amp, Kenwood mono 600w amp, EQS by audio controls EQ, Boston G2 sub, 6" seperates in front doors with tweeters in top part of door near front, and 6" coaxials in back doors, and 4" coaxials in rear pillars.

Installer had something to be desired. Many screw ups and lied to me about RTA'ing then came up with lame excuse that he would loan me his analyzer to do it myself! Yeah, right.

Nice work on sub box though.

Great location for the sub. Keeps it out of the way and doesn't eat up any cargo room.

nice look

I decided not to go crazy with this car but once I see JL come out with a stealth box thats pre amped I'd like the added bass. the minute I saw this car I thought the dent behind the seat release would be a good spot for a sub box looks clean. sux you had installer trouble I'm lucky my past few roommates have been car audio installers so I'm lucky.

VERY nice work on the sub box. Everything else was just meh, looked like he just wired it up and threw it down there. But it's all covered anyway so I am just nit-picking.

Excellent choice in HU's. Always liked Kenwoods Excelon series. Running the KDC-889 in my BMW... looks identical to yours.

Found out that to really use a usb hard drive, I have to have a power supply in addition to bus power from HU. Drives are to finicky with power only from the HU. So I used a 12v to 5v 500ma converter that can be used in lighter socket. Then I can use even a 2.5 drive no problem with a Y cable. I took out the x890 for a x891 because the folder search was to difficult while driving on the 890. The 891 can access folders direct by number from the remote. Much easier.

That's 07LiquidCX7's car/project and he has mad modskills and has contributed a lot.

Dear altaski, where did you get a box for sub?? Is it customs build? any charts? Please provide more info. Thanks.

Sub Box

Sub box is custom made. I was charged $900 for this box. I think it was excessive but at the point I was at I just wanted it done. In the end it took 17 trips to get it all done right.
Its made out of fiberglass. Attached to sheet metal framing in back behind plastic trim. Cover is set up like a home speaker with the little pins that snap into a hole in box.

New Stereo Head unit

I took out the Kenwood unit, didn't like it much. And put in.....

a Pioneer FH-PBT800! and wow this is great. Pic to follow.

Speaker update

When I first got the new system, I had Boston speakers put in at the suggestion of the shop Sounds Fast that did the whole install. I soon found I didn't like these as they produced boomy results in the 100-300 hz range.

Great news! I got some SR series POLK speakers now front and rear. They are amazing. Big difference. The 100-300 range is so clear you can hear the individual notes played on the instruments. I truly sounds great. I had Polks in my previous Turbo Supra and they were great in it to.

Recomendation- Don't skimp on speakers!
