Finally! (guitar)

Put a deposit down on some Rota P1s in Hyperblack over two months ago! Financial "priorities" sucked away funds until now.

Got em from www.SubyDude.com ask for Zoeb. Paid $25 bucks per wheel to custom machine the hub to Mazda-fitment 67.1mm. They fit perfectly! Total cost was $850 shipped.

Wheels are 18 x 8 +48 offset. Weigh only 19.2 lbs (boom07) (confirmed by scale).

Tires are Kuhmo Ecsta SPT "ultra-performance" summer tires in 225/40/18. Got em from DiscountTiresDirect during the $100 off sale a couple weeks ago. Paid only $349 shipped with Certificates. Damn good deal.

Had the stock tires removed from stocker wheels in order to reuse the valve stems and TPMS sensors. No problems with it. I wanted to preserve the benefits of the tire pressure monitoring, especially since I take my Speed3 to the track rather frequently. (not the drag strip....a real road course).

No driving impressions yet for the SPT's since I've put about 5 miles on the car today since getting installed.

I'm very satisfied with how nicely the Hyperblack color balances with the Cosmic Blue and smoke tinted windows. I especially enjoy how they shift color to an almost polished metallic with indirect lighting.

Hope you enjoy the pics! (nana)

They look good. Please tell us about how you like those tires since I am interested in them.

Nice! I can't wait to get different tires. I really don't like the OEMs that come with our cars. I got too used to the Michelin Pilot Sports and these Bridgestones just don't compare.

Initial impressions about the Kuhmo SPTs:

- road noise seems a bit louder
- tend to follow road grooves more
- a bit less howling under cornering

Look, it's my car! Oh wait this one has side moldings... ;)

I love these P1's with the CB. Whenever I get out of my car I often do the 'ole look back because they look soo good.

Great minds think alike! Now we gotta figure out what to do with the calipers.

So whats up with the tires?

My dealer had them today on the rack and I asked what they thought and the service guy says he sells the s*** out of them and people like them.

I want to know if people like them because its a $100 tire or are they as good performance as stock tires with longer tread life and just sweeter being so much cheaper?

They look cool and the price is very good but I would like to know more and especially input form those who run them on our cars.

still breaking them in, but no complaints. seems that road noise is a tad greater but then again I'm running on 8" wide tires instead of the stock 7" rims. so it might be expected.

I will learn a great deal more about how they withstand aggressive driving and heat soaking after next weekend. I am participating in a track day at Spring Mountain raceway in NV.

I will post up pics of the front tires taken before & after the single track day.

Anyone know where to find the weight specs for Rota wheels? I can't seem to locate them.

Depending on weight, I might look into a set of Rota's in 17X8. Can't decide on style.

Definitely HyperBlack on CB though....very sweet looking. Nice pics!

I got these same tires on that deal. Same size, same everything. I paid $296 shipped to my front door. Cant wait to get them on my Mazdaspeed rims...

How come you paid $349 on that deal? I checked and we definetly both have 225/40/18's..... Ecsta SPT's.

Weird.

I wont ever have my car at a track but just want to know that under normal street driving that they handle just as good as the potenzas. Every now and then I like to find those cool onramps where they are a hard long turn and I can have a bit of fun pushing the car through them or when I drive the moutains on the windy roads. I have so much confidence in these potenzas when doing this and so far using good judgement but still having fun I have yet to break the car loose in a turn.

I just want to know if these Khumos will do this or if I am going to be pissed when I put the car into a turn and feel like its going to break loose. I am honestly considering just buying the Potenzas again since I know how well they handle but then start to add up the fact they are nearly double the price of the Khumo.

I am getting up to about 12k miles right now and the dealer measured 7/32 tread on the tires which isnt bad. The front still have about 1-2mm to go before the first soft layer of the tire is gone then I will rotate them again and am guessing I can see 18-20k miles on these tires. I drive 25k miles a year so having to buy a new set every year will suck but these Khumos will be the best deal for me pending how they perform.

I look forward to your input, thanks again.

Wow, looks great man, I'm a big fan of those!

Sorry to thread jack, but does anyone have an opinion on how these same wheels would look on a Black Mica car?? ;)
