Tint and a MS3...

Hey guys,

Has anyone heard of Luminar Tint...? Is it good?
Also, I was quoted at my dealership to tint all my windows (except windshield since I think it looks weird to have that bar tint) with Luminar Tint in a Carbon version 25% 35% for $230...

Is this expensive for the Central Florida region...?

Thanks for the help...

Should be LLUMAR, I think. I have it on my car if it is indeed the stuff you are talking about. I got Ceramic 35%. I wish I'd have gone 20%, but otherwise HAPPY!

Edit - Winshield tint with the one I did has turned out to be PRICELESS. I love it. I just had it done slightly above the AS1 line, since I'm tall. The look is good!

Extra Edit - I found the website, and found the one I used. It is http://www.llumar.com/na-eng/Automotive/auto.html
I chose the Platinum Plus 35%, which nearly matches the color of my car exactly. Noticed you are blessed with the same car as me, :), if I were you I'd go with Platinum Plus 18%, which is pretty much their 20%. I wish I had, but otherwise I'm thrilled.

You're probably right... I spoke with the guy on the phone and is sounded like luminar...its probably LLUMAR... Is that a good brand?

Any pictures of what it looks like? They said they would put 25% on all windows except the front ones which would be 35%. They also said that the carbon tint runs darker...

How much did you pay for your tint...? (If you don't mind me asking)

Llumar is a top-notch brand, and I highly recommend it. The Tint World facility here in Vegas is considered a ground-breaker when it comes to tinting. They use a 3-D plotter to cut the tint out of the roll, so a knife NEVER touches your glass. There is a big difference between this, and the old way (the way I used to do it, as a pro), and I was happy to pay the extra to this company to do this for me.

The Ceramic (called Platinum Plus) in 35% all around including the front of the winshield was $330 w/ tax. Expensive, but one hell of a job, and the best stuff they've got. BTW, I do recommend the Platinum Plus well over the Carbon since you have a Silver MS3. The match is really neat. I'd also suggest going the same all around the car, unless you are worried about the law (which typically isn't an issue, but your success may vary!)

If you wish, I'll dig up some pics w/ the tint I've got on, just let me get home in an hour or so, and I'll upload some high-res shots.

Since its being done through the Mazda dealer, the tint shop has to go with legal limits, unless I take my car there personally and pay them cash...
If I do cash and the illegal way, they won't honor the lifetime warrantee...

They can go as dark as 20% on the back end of the car, but both front door windows have to be 35% to stay legal... They did say that the carbon looks darker than the metal tint...

Whats so special about the ceramic? I would think that the carbon would be darker...???

I would really appreciate photos... :)

Sure, here's a nice sized pair of pics for you:

My opinion on tinting: dude don't be fooled by what is legal and what isn't, and what they pay for and what they don't. Tint is $200-300, better to get what you want. Also, wrapping it in payments means you pay about 1.5x that amount in the end.

No, I already have the car and loan already done... I've had the car for a week now; though I've only driven it two days... I'm on business travel till the 7th... :(

I'm taking the car in for service on the 8th; some weird drowning noise when I slightly turn right...sounds like its coming from one of the front tires...but the car tracks straight...?? And there is a swirl mark on the hood that the dealer will take car of... So, I figure since the car will be at the dealers all day that they might as well tint it for me... I don't know, I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone... :)

Thanks for the pics!!! Beautiful... Do you have one that shows the tint bar on the windshield...? Sorry to be so demanding... LOL

if you dont like the strip on the windshield do what I did and get the whole windshield tinted 50%. It helps and its so light its barely noticeable from the outside.

I have 10% tint on my ms3 with a lifetime warr. against peeling, cracking and if i have to get them pulled off and put back on for $140

I got mine done by a friend of the family at the Daytona Flea Market. He does a really nice job and is very reasonable. Oh and did I mention limo tint all the way around.

How hard is it to see outside with the dark tint (10% and Limo) at night?

I think I might just pay the guy cash and get 25% all the way around...since he says that the carbon tint runs darker than the normal stuff...

Any other tinted Silvers out there (of course other colors are welcome)...?

Nah..couldn't find one suitable in the shots I made...but its nice. Its just there to stop some of the sunset and sunrise glare. Works!

To the dude who said tint their entire front windshield...beyond illegal, and for good reason! Tinting like this is horrible for vision. Tint distorts the vision ever so slightly. Seriously...bad idea and all around not the right thing to do with tint.

I got 13% llumar or whatever on my ms3 at a great shop on Ridgewood in Port Orange plus it only cost me around $120...

Heres some pics of 13%, when trying to park at night you cant see anything..thought id post this to help people out as recently wev had quite a few people having problems with bios

all the beep codes are different depending of who makes the bios , but here are some of the more common ones

What is a BIOS Beep Code?
When you power on a computer the BIOS immediately takes control of the computer and performs the P.O.S.T (Power On Self Test). At the end of the POST the computer will play an audible 'BEEP' through either the PC's internal speaker of through speakers attached to the sound card (if you have a built-in sound chip). If the POST completed successfully without detecting any problems with then system will play a single short beep to let you know the test is complete and the computer will continue to startup and load the operating system.
If during the POST the BIOS detects a problem it will normally display a visual error message on the monitor explaining what the problem is. However, if a problem is detected before the BIOS initializes the video card, or a video card is not present or not detected then the BIOS will play several 'BEEPS' through the speaker to let you know there is a problem. Depending on the type of the BIOS you have the BIOS may play beeps in a specific pattern to indicate what the problem is, or play the same beep a number of times indicating the problem. It is very important that you pay close attention to the number and/or pattern of the beeps your computer plays on startup.

Below is a table of the most common AMI, Phoenix and Award BIOS beep codes.

AMI (American Megatrends International) BIOS Beep Codes.
AMI BIOS uses beeps of the same length and pitch. The error is displayed as a number of beeps. For example, 4 beeps indicated a timer failure.
BEEP CODE MEANING POSSIBLE CAUSE
1 Beep (No video) Memory refresh failure Bad memory
2 Beeps Memory parity error Bad memory
3 Beeps Base 64K mem failure Bad memory
4 Beeps Timer not operational Bad motherboard
5 Beeps Processor error Bad processor
6 Beeps 8042 Gate A20 failure Bad CPU or Motherboard
7 Beeps Processor exception Bad processor
8 Beeps Video memory error Bad video card or memory
9 Beeps ROM checksum error Bad BIOS
10 Beeps CMOS checksum error Bad motherboard
11 Beeps Cache memory bad Bad CPU or motherboard

Award BIOS Beep Codes
Award BIOS uses beeps of varying duration. A long beep will typically last for 2 seconds while a short beep will last only 1 second. Award BIOS also uses beeps of different frequency to indicate critical errors. If an Award BIOS detects that the CPU is overheating it may play a high pitched repeating beep while the computer is running.
BEEP CODE MEANING POSSIBLE CAUSE
1 Long, 2 Short Video adapter failure Bad video adapter
Repeating (Endless loop) Memory error Bad memory or bad connection
1 Long, 3 Short Video adapter failure Bad video adapter or memory
High freq. beeps (while running) CPU is overheating CPU fan failure
Repeating High, Low beeps CPU failure Bad processor

Phoenix BIOS Beep Codes
Phoenix BIOS uses beep code patterns to indicate problems. In the table below the '-' indicates a brief pause between beeps.
Example: 1 - 1 - 2 would sound like BEEP <pause> BEEP <pause> BEEP BEEP

Keep in mind that there is a color difference between the traditional dark, and what I got. Yes, it costs more. But I like the Platinum plus a lot.

Hmm... also come to think of it tint on the windshield may interfere with the safety glass... There's a lovely expression: "glass necklace" that referred to the outcome of some pre-safety-glass car accidents.

I'd say it's prolly not worth it.
