Official Exhaust Thread

After seeing the onslaught of "what exhaust should i get" threads, and the lack of the use of the search function, i decided to take the time to start off an official exhaust thread. my hope is that people will post up there exhaust setups, with pictures/vids/soundclips, and their overall impression of their setup.
now i know this is posted in the p5 forum, but if it needs to be moved to a more generic forum, then so be it. Ill also edit this post as necessary. Im hoping this will get stickied, and get big enough to be a once stop thread for info.

My setup: Racing Beat Catback

Overall its a very quiet system, its loud when you want it, and quiet enough for the drive home at night. It doesnt drone while cruising, and has a wonderful tone at WOT. Its a quality piece, with a tip that is noticeable and looks classy, and is good if youd rather not opt for the canister look. Overall im very happy with it.
The install went a little longer then it should have, but only because my friend and i stripped an axle back bolt. With that aside it bolts up just fine, with 0 fitment problems.

hope some people will find this helpful. i also hope other Protege people will post up their setups.

cheers(drinks)

Excellent thread. I was going to be getting Racing Beat soon enough just from what everyone has said, and now with your sound clips and pictures, I'm now definitely getting it lol. Looks great and sounds great. Thanks a bunch (drinks)

Edit: Is this the sound with stock headers or after market?

I would buy that up, but I dont like the way the tip looks. It's tiny, for one. Secondly it's got that double layer thing kicking..... like RB put a chrome tip over a stocker pipe. Meh.

I'm thinkin Magnaflow??? I've heard it on our cars and it sounds good. (rockon)

thank you

this is the sound w/ the stock header. i do plan on investing in an obx header within the next couple of months.

and yeah, i heard that the magnaflow sounds great on our cars.

Hey guys, what exhaust should I get? Just kidding.

I've been looking at the Racing Beat catback for my P5 and this thread totally sold me on it now. I like the suttle looks of the exhaust tip and it's not too loud to wake up everyone in my apartment complex when I come home late after a gig. It almost looks stock with the extra sleeve around the tip. And most importantly, Racing Beat has the dyno numbers for the added horse power.

Did you use your stock exhaust hangers? I've read a lot of guys switch to Kartboy hangers because of fitment issues.

Magnaflow. Kartboys are stiffer, less movement. Actually, I have oems up front & Kartboy on the muffler.

that's how I roll. We've had our fun, time to get back on topic.

If you think massive tips look good (I said "TIPS" ;) ) then that's your thing. I got over that a while back. I like the proportionality of this tip.

Also, there is a reason for the double wall tip, it's so you don't burn yourself on the tip. Useless you say? Maybe I'll take a pic of the scar on my wife's leg where she brushed against the exhaust while loading the groceries. This was from an MP3 version racing beat.

And no, the scar does not say "racing beat" and come to think of it, knowing the wierdos on this forum I will not post pics of my wife's legs. :D

one thing i hate about the racing beat is the double walled tip makes it look like you went to a auto parts store bought a tip and clamped it on

I hate the look too. That's why I snatchied one from an 03 mazdaspeed protege (round tip). Hotness :D

I think so too, though I think they sound great. But the Racing Beat cat-back exhaust only adds 4.7hp according to their website. If I'm going to spend $450 for a cat back, I think I might buy the Greddy Evo2, I'll bet it adds more than 4.7hp because it seems like a more open design.

Does anyone have a Greddy EVO2 on their P5?

*edit* This is for a Protege5, right?
