Turbo oil?

Sup, What oil do you guys run in your boosted setups? I'm planning on boosting, and have always used mobil 1 fully synthetic all 133k miles I have.

Yes, but the added protection is the main reason for it... it really helps with the transmissions.

Well, I can see this will start much debate, but the shockproof is one of the worst oils for a street driven car.

Shockproof works because there are tiny (like microscopic) calcium particles in it. These particles come between the gear surfaces, and under shock loading they get crushed, absorbing the stress. Now, lots of race teams use shockproof, but it needs to be changed every 1,000 miles or so because once all of the calcium chunks are broken down, you're basically left with horse piss for gear oil.

On a track-only car, it's perfect. Like anything else, it's not bad, it just has it's place when used in the right application, and a street car transmission is not that place.

I did some extensive research when I was picking my gear oil, and while I originally wanted to go with a shockproof, my research revealed that it would in fact do more harm than good.

You can tell based on the color change when it is "shot". And yes, it has to be replaced regularily. For high horsepower it's a lot safer and better than any of the other fluids out there when used properly. Not to mention quite a few of us have been using it for 3+ years without any issue and less dropped 3rd gears then the rest of the people out there.

Whenever I hit the waterbox, or launch it for that matter, I still do it gently, albeit quickly. My tranny just ate 4th at the end of my run, on about 22-24psi. I wasn't looking at my gauge, but it had nothing to do with shock loading whatsoever. The gears just plain suck.

Time to adapt a toyota or honda gearbox to your application i think!

trying to fix the G-series to hold enormous horsepower is always going to be a game of bandaiding...You harden the gears, shaft flex becomes the next issue (because of the weak case) - you remedy that and your end bearing lets go decimating the entire box.....the gearbox is just simply not designed to hold the horsepower

Do a search for user GTXWGN - he's a local aussie guy with a BPT - Who went through more gearboxes than most people do underpants....and eventually got jack of it, and adapted an MR2 gearbox to suit his purpose.... ok so it meant new shafts, and loads of custom work, but its a one time expense...theres no way on earth that thing is breaking until he gets up around 800+ horsepower i wouldn't think. Also more aftermarket support in these gearboxes.... more selection for diffs, more gear ratios to chose from... go check it out...
