ok, i'm trying to install my shifter bushings and i can't get the lighter face off... is it necessary? i've pulled off out the cup holder and the shift boot and i can see where the bushings go. can't i just remove the shift cables and pull the shifter out still, or will it only come out if i remove the lighter face and the rest of the console?

Just pull harder on the lighter face, mine was hard to remove too. You need to remove the lighter face to get to the bolts to remove the entire center console.

You'll also notice that where they say "use philips to remove these two screws"... replace that with "use 8mm socket to remove these two screws". Unless that is another "just in Canada" thing...

You need to take the lighter piece out but you don't need to remove the center console to do the bushings install. To get the lighter piece out you need to pull hard on the right side, the left side comes out much more easily than the right for some reason. You also don't need to take the shifter piece out either to do it, you can leave it connected to the shifting cables to do it. Its a little trickier but it can still be done, just disconnect the ball joint parts of the shift cables then take all the bolts out. Then you just need to get the rubber bushings out, a screw driver really helps getting them out. Then after they are out just put the metal bushings underneath with the grooved side up, put a washer on top of each hole then put the bolts back in and have fun lining up the holes!

its cool guys, i got it now. thanks for your help. it was pretty irritating, but if i had to do it again it would take me like 15 minutes... shifter feels much better.

i just installed the shifter bushings today and it did make somewhat of a difference. weird how it bolts straight down though. almost like you really didnt need those bushings. the difference for me is only felt when your beating up the car. though i ALWAYS get locked out of third when im railing on the car. i heard that can be fixed with the rt-90 tranny fluid though. the lock out happens on my buddies speed6 too until e put in the new fluid with the better viscosity.

I've never had any issues getting into third...

Take your console off again and watch the shifter (or.. for safety reasons have your passenger watch it) while you are "railing" on it to see if anything is binding.

MT-90.....go me. the M and the R arent even near each other. Im replacing the motor mount and putting in the new fluid this week so all should hail victorious. keep you posted.
