Dealer slam (houston)

Let me reintroduce myself:

I joined this forum when I got my P5. After it was stolen and totaled, I moved on to a couple of other cars (Nissan truck & Audi TT), but kept this account active because I really enjoyed my Mazda.

Recently I have started looking for a new car and the MS3 is right at the top. I am also interested in, although they are in a different category, the Legacy GT wagon and Volvo V70R. It just comes down to how much room I really need.

I stopped by Joe Meyers Mazda in Houston to check out the MS3. I found a GT in black, but when I looked at the sticker I was immediately turned off to the dealer.

There was a dealer addendum with extra charges that brought the total price to over 27k and it didn't even have nav. What did they add, you ask? Let me tell you...

Protection plan: bullshite wax and fab protector

Market adjustment: not so polite way of saying you will pay at least sticker for the car

Aftermarket wheels: no, those are the stock wheels you are charging over 2k for

Leather interior: no, that would be the factory leather on the GT model

I find it incredible that a dealer has the bawlz to charge twice for things that are on the car from the factory, things that show up on the meroni sticker. I wonder what would Mazda USA say about this?

Are you saying they itemized standard parts (ie. leather seats) with a specific dollar amount next to it on the bill of sale?

call mazda NA and report them, thats quite shady....

did you talk to anyone at the dealer and make them aware of this?

Not a bad idea...
personally i would have taken a dump on their sales desk. But thats just me
Good luck with the car search

(werd) this is just a blatant attempt at fraud for the most part...I would have had some words w/ the manager...

Wow, you really need to take a picture of that sticker. That sounds incredibly shady. Were they charging extra for leather, on top of the already increased GT price?

^^^Side note; nice user name! ~"Hello, my name is Guy Incognito..." Simpson fans are always welcome...

Back on topic: I hope no one actually pays the additional $2k for the stock wheels!

I think the approach is pretty simple. Offer them what you are willing to pay and if they insist on their silliness, laugh at them and walk away toward another dealer. I did this at a dealer in my area and went back 2 months later and they still had the speed with the silly stickers on it, where the dealer where I bought my car had sold every one they got. I got mine under sticker.

I've had multiple Convos with the owner and he basically told me that he was going to be making 4-5k more than other dealers on these cars because he was going to over charge.
He says that if people want the car bad enough they'll pay for it.
I say save the 27k you'd spend at his stealership and get a freaking evo or sti.

Unless there is an extremely compelling reason to buy from that dealership, it is not even worth returning to. The type of owner that would mark it up like that would never go as low as another dealer would. Sure you can get him to drop a lot of that stuff, but you'd still be doing good to get back to MSRP. Instead, just find another place that starts at MSRP. You might have a hard time getting much off, but you will definitely still do better, and you won't have to deal with an a-hole dealership.

SuperStretch18 - glad to see a fellow Simpsons fan. I would go with Joey Joe Joe Junior Shabadoo, but that's just a bit too long.

I was going to buy from Joe Myers at first, but when I went into the dealership, I knew right away that I wasn't going to buy from them.

The internet sales manager wouldn't give me the pricing he originally said in his email, he basically called me a liar. He thought that I knew nothing about cars and that I didn't do my research. And finally I guess he thought I wasn't serious since I am only 19, but boy was he wrong...

... So I took my business to Jeff Haas, and I am very happy that I did. I would recommend them to anyone.

I went in after hours, so nobody there to talk to. I used to sell cars and I thought I knew all the games, this took the cake.

Maybe I will go in again and take a picture of the sticker to send to Mazda NA, but I doubt they would do anything about it. I bet I would have better luck tiping off a local consumer advocate news reporter.

The dealer I got my ms3 from had some $1,500 market adjustment BS. They took it off after I made it clear that wasn't gona fly if they wanted me to buy it.

Market adjustment is normal for a desireable car. I've just never seen a dealer charge extra for items included in the msrp.

Now that I think of it though, there was one time, when I sold cars, that the sales manager added chrome wheels to a Nissan Pathfinder I was trying to sell even though they were just the stock wheels. But, this was not something on the sticker and this guy was pretty slimy.

The few MS3's that have gone through Mazda of Clear Lake have sold rather quickly. When i stopped by to check out one of them, they had a dealer mark-up of $2500. No "special" installs or protection, just a straight dealer mark-up. Although the area over here does have money, i dont see how anyone would pay that extra fee.....

if you want to play you got to pay! Im sorry but you can get them for 2,000 under invoice just dont ask me how I know.
