I "think" it's a Pioneer... but it uses the NAVTEQ mapping data/software.
Not sure if that helps at all.

Nope, sadly it's a Sanyo head unit and the software is made by Navteq

Correct info about the CX-7 NAV system

Instead of guessing, ya'll need to get your info from Mazda. Here're is an email from Mazda USA concerning this system:

Hello Vincent,

Thanks for contacting Mazda.

In regards to your inquiry concerning updates for the navigation system on your CX-7, I am happy to tell you that at this time your navigation system has current maps. No other updates are available at this time.

Also, you are correct. NAVTEQ is not handling the navigation system updates. For future updates on your system please visit Denso at http://www.denso.co.jp/en/ as Denso is the company handling navigation system updates for your CX-7.

Unfortunately, what they say in their email isn't reflected on their www.mazdausa.com website. They don't update their website to reflect realities. All I know is that NAVTEQ denies any responsibility for the CX-7 map unit.

How often are you guys gonna load a new DVD? I think I might update mine every year to 2 years. I have to see what they are charging for the DVD, I think $200.00 is the average...but I might be wrong.

I think the map disk needs updating now! There's been substantial construction of roads/highways/freeways in northern VA in the last two years. Heck, some new interchanges built 2 years ago aren't even in this current release!

If they'd make yearly revisions, I'd buy it every year.

Yep - also i did some work to obtain the european maps for my CX-7 and
navteq refused to supply for CX-7.

Then I noticed the DENSO part number on my DVD mapdisk - so DENSO IT IS!

And quess what - no updates to be found - their website sucks - hard (lick)

just look at this... http://www.globaldensoproducts.com/ic/index.html (hand)

Wondered here tho' I have a CX-9 -- how did you determine whether Denso has any updates? I agree, their site is state of the art -- circa 1999.

I looked at some of the Prius forums. Their system is Denso also. They just got a map update in Jan. Their discs are version 6.1. Which is the same as mine.

Seems like it may be 2008 before anything new comes out?

Why Cant You Use Other Software?

I own a CX-7 with the navigation package and while its mostly up to date, there are certain things that are lacking especially when it comes to POIs. I think that mazda opted for the cheaper quality dvd with less POIs b/c I'll drive by banks that have been there for years but dont display. At any rate, if Denso or navtech won't be upgrading for a while, why not install software intended for another car like lexus or bmw that you can purchase through navtech??? Will that ruin the system??

Navteq disk would not be recognized by CX-7 Navsystem.
i tried to insert my Navteq RX-8 disk and got error message - not a mapdisk.

I am desperate here :'( , you whine about missing POI-s
I'm complaining about missing continent - not to mention the roads (bang)

A bit more info about Denso. I sent them an email a couple weeks back, inquiring about the availability of updates. They stated that they do not deal directly with consumers and that updates are only available through Mazda.

Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard-place! This is a classic case of "don't bother me, go talk to him". I'm thinking that the only way to get Mazda to get off their duff, is to flood their website with bunches of email, asking for support.

Bump (my first post! (hump) )

This is a little frustrating to hear. I just bought my wife a CX this past weekend and tried putting several addresses that the system not only didn't have, but had whole entire subdivision omitted. I'm okay with the bank thing, as they go up/down and change names like the weather.

If there's a big nit for me with the CX-7, it's gotta be with the NAV unit. I kind of wished I had been astute enough, at the time that I bought the CX-7, to take the time and thoroughly test the NAV. But of course, 20/20 hindsight being what it is...

The NAV works well enough, but it simply lacks features of more sophisticated units coming out of Alpine and Pioneer. Some CX-7 owners have become so disallusioned with it, that they've already upgraded. Unfortunately, after-market kits haven't hit the market yet, so the fit/finish is wanting.

Let's just hope that Mazda/Denso release an update soon!

Since this is my first NavUnit I've ever owned and used - it blew me away with how useful it was/is. What are the "other" features that competing Navigation units have that make them better...?

I'm not challenging your statement by any means... I am really curious... because i LOVE the Nav in my CX-7 and if other ones are BETTER...? then I am really missing-out.

I guess I don't know what I'm missing yet. :) Ignorance is bliss.
