Tell me how good the CAI is...

Agreed. That is probably as far as I will go also. CAI, Exhaust, and DP. But again I hate to spend that kind of money.

Exactly why it makes sense to see the performance gains from each of these components individual and as combinations. Each of us is only going to go so far with these mods so it good when you know what you're getting(potentially of course) for the money you have to spend. If only we had unlimited funds.....

Well sorry to say ladies and gents... but you get what you pay for.

Yes I have spent a lot of money, but it was worth every penny for the smile on my face when I am sitting in the driver seat of my beast.

Oh don't get me wrong....I love the feeling of driving the car and feeling the power and hearing the exhaust and other mods...but what fun is it if you spend all your money on the parts and can not afford the gas. LOL

when i drive i use the cruise control and my computer reads out 35 mpg current average..when im holding a certain speed like 30-50

Mine does that too....but does not mean I am getting that. :) I think we are getting about 24 maybe a gallon.

i have hit over 60, but of course in 6 @ 3700rpms. But as you said Speed3girl, Im sure that is not correct. But for the most part I think it is pretty accurate considering it only has a 2 second delay.

MS CAI....Whitey said it all. Good gains for the money and the comfort in knowing that if by chance something did go wrong, you never have to worry about the dealer giving you a hard time. Their parts, their installation = their problem. For such a small amount of $$$ difference, I can't imagine not going with Mazda parts / installation.

Yup. Agreed. :)

How cool will they think it is when you get a CEL for a MAF?

Remember to tell them you are buds and they thought it was cool that should get you some good leverage for warranty work.

The fact remains that you either save the $90 and roll the dice, have hook ups at a dealer that will turn their head, or be 110% covered by paying the extra $90 for the MS CAI.

PS I did run the K&N CAI on a supercharged Tacoma and it did let dirt in because time and time again I had to clean the MAF and have it replaced once. Thank God they over looked the CAI which clearly was the reason for the failure. Boosted cars are going to create a s*** load more suction and a oiled filter at some point will draw oil into the pipe and attract the dirt it lets buy.

Yes you can not be dumb and not over oil it but you tell me how you know you havent over done it by a tinny bit or not put enough on the filter. It was oiled by a machine and done perfect when first bought but you will at some point have to clean and oil that filter. It will be interesting to see what the outcome is going to be.

Plain and simple the best filter out there is the new DryFLow type and you know K&N will be on to this soon and make all their old type obsolete. Call it a great buy at $215 shipped all day long but I still dont see the quality and benefit vs cost over a better product that maintains the warranty with no questions asked.

Hey I am the one who started the thread.

having dealer install stuf for me is comforting because it COULD save me hassle and money but not everyone cares and does what they want/choose...this s*** always comes up..duno y everyone always talks about it..no matter what this guy or that guy will do what ever he wants ( girls too)

I don't understand why some of you insist on putting so much faith into your dealers. I have a very good relationship with my dealer considering I had them install my turbo back and made a few agreements with them on the down low. But, remember that the crapy 10,000 mile warranty on a MS CAI DOES NOT MEAN s***!!! The only thing that is under warranty for life is labor and parts (mazda parts). Nothing or anything else of any sort. With that being said, MAZDA and your dealer can send you to the hills if they want to and you can't do nothing about it. Even though the part says MAZDASPEED does not mean that mazda was the manufacturer. B/c they are NOT!!!

Please get your heads out of your ass's, especially you whitey...

Well I can't speak for the others Knowledge, but what I am talking about is not the warranty on the CAI, but on the rest of the engine as it relates to the intake. As I am sure you are well aware, if there is a problem with the engine, and you installed an aftermarket CAI (especially if you did it yourself) the dealer could attempt to blame the problem on that. (And they could be right!) The dealer has a lot more equipment and a lot more techs on his side that could say it is your fault. Short of getting your own certified expert to back you, you would be at the mercy of the dealer's ruling. Even if the dealer concedes, is it would NOT be worth all the hassle and drama for $100.

Even if nothing ever does happen, the $100 spent is easily worth the peace of mind it provides.

My head is not in my ass. My head has done the research and I have PERSONALLY experienced the drama that after market mods can cause. So I am thinking quite clearly thank you very much. If you have a deep personal friendship with your dealer, wonderful -- you don't have much to risk. Many of us don't have those kinds of friends nor do we have the time / energy to make one.

I didn't even come close to reiterating exactly what you said.

And my time and energy is worth way more than $100. As I said....

Ok my fault for starting this thread. Did not mean for this to happen. Sorry. I do personally trust my dealer (for more than one reason). But again I have had CAIs on my other cars and been fine at some dealers and not at others. Each dealer is different. If anything did go wrong you would hope a dealer would help out. Also, you would think since Mazda came out with this CAI that if anything did go wrong Mazda would take care of it. Excluding personal install errors. Like I said I have had 3 or 4 different CAIs before and never had a problem with any of them. Sorry guys
