what can i do to add speed to my protege speed?

Wellllllll...pull the motor and tranny, and put in a Cobra 427 motor with a 4 speed top loader. About 550 HP.. 0-60 in under 4 seconds........ You will be the envy of all your friends!!!

(rofl) (rofl) (rofl)

or; for starters; add a K&N Filter (about $41.00 shipped w care kit) http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/knfilters/details?part_num=RU-3580

There is a CAI (cold air intake) that Injen is working on. There will be more on that here on the forum, as the release date nears.

At this time; MAZDASPEED hasn't released any upgrade parts, I don't think.

Some owners have changed out the BOV (blow off valve), and added a boost controller to bring the boost up to around 9.5 lbs. Obviously; one must be careful of such an upgrade. Warranty issues, etc...

The addition of a Turbo Timer and (or) Boost Gauge is another popular upgrade. I bought the Blitz...

why cant we hear the infamous sound of a turbo engine on ours? what can i do to get that sound?

When you add the K&N filter, and lower the volume on the stereo, you will.

Here is a link to one member's site: Britt (122 Vega). He has some good photos of the K&N, and the Blitz installation.

What the hell is a Protege Speed?

I could hear the turbo and bypass valve on the MAZDASPEED Protege I drove just fine. Much louder than a WRX, at least.

When I spool hard, especially in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, I hear the Turbo and (sometimes) BOV pretty well, even without the K&N.

do u even own a mazda speed? first off u cant hear the turbo and if u had the car ud know that.
No, I don't, hence the "MAZDASPEED Owner-to-be" moniker.

I and others can hear the turbo and bypass valve even on a stock MSP. Replacing the airbox with a K&N filter will make the sound even louder. I don't know why you can't hear it on yours (or why it would be "infamous") but compared to a WRX, it's much louder. What are you comparing it to?

Take the car to a shop that can bend custom piping. then have them redo the intake stage. Swap out that POS interooler and figure out how to increase the boost.

You said it, Dex! Even though I drive about 60 miles round trip each day to work and back,,,,,it's just not enough!!

This weekend, I'm putting my K&N filter on. It arrived yesterday. And; next weekend, I'm getting together with a buddy of mine, and installing my Blitz turbo timer/boost gauge.

now whats really fun is hearing the turbo still spinning after you get out of the car. now something you get with a regular turbo as apposed to the BB

or you could just sell the car and get something fast cause nobody really has any go fast goodies for the car yet soooooooooooo:confused:

Sure they do the problem is you have to rework alot of the turbo system. FIrst thing to go is the entire intake other then the piping. Then talk to terry at Spoolin industries or Corky at BEGI and get a better intercooler. Then get a shop to bend you piping to replace the plastic BS and air filter.
THe next thing to go is the stock exhuast and the pre cat.

I can hear my turbo? also I can hear a loud bov. but those are for a dfferent reason. ;) If you want to "improve the speed of your protege speed" there is a lot you have to do. First you should know that what companies claim for HP gains never happen. second hp gains from bolt-ons are not linear. third the first few mod you should think about are 1. change out the exhaust as it is pretty restritive, 2. Boost controller, 3. SAFC/injectors, 4. FMIC, 5. Injen intake when it comes out. That should help you get some "speed".

If you want to go crazy you could have a custom made down pipe, rebored throttle body, low compression forged pistons, light weight flywheel, new camshaft, upgrade brakes (if you cant stop why go fast), stand alone fuel management system, cam gears, billet Connecting Rods, Flexible Polyurethane Solid engine mounts, Ignition wires, short throw shifter kit, Walbro In-Tank Fuel Pumps, larger turbo, better Intake Manifold, port and polished, and some other thing i left out and you should have that "speed" you want.

This car was not meant for speed but for handling.

i am going to be building a custom 3 inch exaust, removing cats and making a custom intake for mine i just have to wait until 500 miles first. im going to first install a boost and egt gauge, to moniter stock boost and egts, then wen i install a adjustable fuel regulater and fuel pump, and a manual boost control nob, i will hav a good referance of safe egts with new higher boost and fuel pressure, i should be able to get it around 200hp to the wheels with proper tuning. i will let u know my progress.
