underpowering speakers

hey guys i have a quick question,

lets say you get a new set of speakers (comps, subs, etc). is it best to power them with thier rated RMS values stated in their literature or can one get away with underpowering them a little bit and just not to turn them up loud enough so distortion is not present. will that hurt a speaker/ SQ in any way?

As long as there is no audible distortion you can not harm a speaker unless you power it with over there thermal rating. It takes alot of power to do that.
Its best to match rms values with a similairly reputable brand but nothing is set in concreat. Since the model years are rotating you can get some decent amps for short money right now though.
