Okay folks quick question I have narrowed my tire search down on replacing the awful Bridgestone Tires my MSP came with, The two brands I am considering are the Michelin Pilot Sport at 187.00 each, or the Dunlap Sport 900 at 160.00 per tire. Any feedback would be great and helpful.

Thanks

GO TO WWW.TIRERACK.COM !!!

At those prices you may be getting hosed - paying too much for tires that may not be what you need. Dunlop SP Sport 9000 is $109 each (add about $8 for shipping) from The Tire Rack at www.tirerack.com . They also have reviews, ratings on each tire, etc. Personal preference in that price range woult be the S-03 Pole position at $159 each - best 3-season tire I've driven.

Some more economical alternatives (again, for me - I have dedicated snows and can drive a "summer" or "3-season" tire):

SP Sport 8000 $132: Better than the 9000 in many ways, not as squishy in the dry, very predictable. NO SNOW. OK for AutoX, but still not really a race tire (nothing is - "R" compound tires will run rings around any of thes tires on the track. The S-03 may keep "R" tires in sight for a while, but not long. That said, any of these tires will outlast an "R" tire by 3-4x).

Continental ContiExtreme Contact $89 (!). Supposed to be a GREAT all-season - not as mucha performance tire as the 8000 or PP, but quite ogod nonetheless, and a great price with all-season flexibility. Not an AutoX tire.

Bridgestone Potenza RE950: $157: Many of the attributes of the S-03 but on a longer wearing, slightly less grippy compound.

Would really help to know what kind of driving you do - if you're going to hit any snow, you'll need all-seasons at a minimum, dedicated snows preferred (then you can go with summer tires). If you autox, there's another parameter. What's important in your life - long mileage? Rain traction? Noise? What would you be willing to trade off for - more noise and less tire life for phenominal traction? Or do you need all-season capability? This would help us all give advice. All of the above tires are great tires - but none of them are great at everything - you have to choose which attributes you need. Race tire for the street? S-03. All-season? Conti Extreme Contact. In between? 8000 (but not in snow).

Personally, I'm OK with the B-stones. They're decent in the rain, not too noisy, haven't come out of balance or flat spotted, and they're predictable. That said, I won't be replacing them with the same tire, but that's preference, not any animosity to the tire. I'll be getting either 8000's or ContiExtreme Contacts. Can't justify the extra $80 for S-03's, even though they're a great tire. Michelins? Great tires, but spendy for what you get - you can do better for less.

Good luck!

For Summer performance tires I HIGHLY recommend the Kumho Ecsta MX. For about a hundred bux a tire you have something completely on par with the Bridgestone S03 and the two tires you listed.

Or if you want something nicer go for the S03s in 215/45/17 OEM size. Great tire. Neither of the tires you listed are on par with these.

I had the kuhmo ecstas and I loved them. I plan on getting them for my next set. cheap perfomance. :)
by the way, can we fit a 225/45/17
or should it be a 225/40/17
I want wider tires, but I don't want finder rub...

Be careful of 225/45's on the stock rims. Scapamouche had serious rubbing issues with 225/45 falkens azenis sports. But those run wide... so maybe a different tire wouldn't rub... I wouldn't chance it though.

What don't you like about the Bridgestone's ???

I actually like these, the first pair of BStones i've ever liked.

They handle pretty well in the wet, which was always a huge concern with BStones for me.

I have Michelin winters, so so far so good with these.

I am very concerned with the 140 treadwear rating though.
