Mazdaspeed Protege '03
I am new to the forums and just wanted to say hi. I just bought a black mazdaspeed 2003 from the dealer a week and a half ago. So far, I am extremely impressed by the car and have yet to experience the hesitation or lag many of the other forumers have been discussing.

In any case, I vaguely knew how to drive stick before buying the speed but found it easy to get used to. I have been following the recommended break-through period of below 65mph and shifting at 3000rpms, but i was just wondering if there are any others things a newbie should know about the speed. Driving techniques, what type of car wax, handling, maintience, etc.

Almost forgot, the dealer stressed letting the car run idle for at least 30secs after driving to let the turbo cool down, do you guys happen to do this?

Thanks again!

hey, welcome to the forums. About letting it idle before turning off the ignition, When you drive hard, you should follow this. If you buy a turbo timer, it will do this for you.

Welcome, and search around the boards to find some helpful info

for the most part

shift at about 7-7 1/4 thousand rpm
boost 10-12 psi
don't excede 80 on on/off ramps
buy a radar detector
take the cat back section of exhaust off
and replace the stock box with a APEXi airfilter
don't try to race a hyabusa on the highway (two nights ago)

oh yeah and if you havn't changed the oil (i hope you have) you should buy synthetic oil the more $$$ the better while your car is on the lift woy should insist on redline mt-90 since you are new to shifting 4qt's
