I lost a race to a Firebird, I dunno what it was but he said it had about 230 hp. What i don't get is that he couldn't keep up with me on a roll but on take off he had about 3 cars on me,i would creep on him but eventually he would stop. I am so pissed, i hate people who claim victory before the race is actually over!!! AHHHHH:wtf: :bs: :wtf:

yeah this post sucks, big deal, so does alexlitov

Is it just me or can i not race? I know he is suppose to have the jump on me but damn......and was that hp number correct? It wasn't a ram air......trans am...any suggestions on what i can do to keep up with asses like this guy?

I raced an older firebird(early 90's) on the freeway a month or so ago...She(redneck) had the lead, and I couldn't pull past her until about 110, and we were pretty even until about 115-120. I finally pulled ahead, and she flashed her high beams, and we called it off....Pretty exciting to me...She even gave me a thumbs up(thumb)
I think you would have easily taken him on the top end, he just gave up to quick.

he is killing you with low end power
my mom's GMC Jimmie can kill almost anything off the line, but it has no top end at all

he has power from the start, you do not get full power untill about 3000 rpm, and once you hit that he is ahead
this would also explane why he cant keep up with you on a roll,
you power band is just starting and his is almost gone

Depends on what kind of Firechicken he/she had. There are so many models of Firebirds, it's not even funny. However, I've seen a VERY close race with a stock MSP vs stock V6 F-body and I've beat Tara's V6 Firechicken myself, but only after trying at different times weeks apart. (Read: You've just got to get to know your car.)

those v-6's and v-8's that comes in the camaro and firebird all have relatively flat power bands. their power comes on at about 1500rpms and steadily reaches its peak at about 5500 rpms. they get around 75% of their power at 1500 rpms, where as you would get about 60% of your power at 3K rpms. it's just the way the cars work.

remember that viper commercial? 90% of the torque is available at idle. it can tow a 3 ton boat at idle. same idea, except a whole lot less. we can't keep up with that in our high revving 4-bangers.
