clutch issues?

i have a 03 protege 5, recently i have noticed a few things while shifting. 1 the clutch creaks (sometimes) a little when depressing it, mainly at low speeds when it does. i just went out and pressed the clutch in and out a few times while car was off it squeaks a lot while doing that over and over. and i occasionally get a squeak when shifting at speed from either 2nd to 3rd or 4th to 5th, seems to do it most from 4th to 5th but still does it very rarely. and occasionally i have a hard time getting from neutral to first at a stand still. i got the car from my dad who has had it since late 03 and has never replaced the clutch but he has driven stick shift his whole life and was really easy on the clutch. Does this sound like a clutch or clutch related part such as a bearing or pressure plate issue? no leaks no other issues seams to shift fine 95% or more of the time

It could be the throwout bearing on the clutch, a new clutch, throwout and pilot bearings will likely fix the noise.

after reading a few threads on this issue i am at the same conclusion you are but if i tell my dad about it he will be mad, he thinks the car is infallible and shouldnt need any repairs ever, it is still in his name i just drive it. i do live with him while i am in college and i do not have the money to pay for this repair so will need his help paying. any other possibilities?

he looked at it and drove it we think the throwout bearing is going bad, time for a new clutch(its still on oem factory clutch 10 years 146,000 miles before issues!) i have no money for! yay! what is our oem clutch brand? is duralast any good? i work at autozone and can get it for $80 from them but if its bad i dont want it ill spend more, is exedy our oe?

Turn up the radio then... ;) I've seen brand new honda's creak, it was just a lack of lube/grease where the throw out lever connects up with the throw out bearing. I got the Exedy kit for $106 on amazon.com... ($160 delivered/taxed/etc to Canada.)

yes, but ignoring a noise is no way to treat a car that i want, and truly need to last a long time :D

i have been listening extra careful today it does it bad from neutral to first at a stand still and seems to make changing from neutral to first or 2nd hard and reverse has gotten a lot harder to shift into according to my dad, he did drive it for 10 years so he would know

Are you sure your noise happens when you press the clutch peddle in/let it out? I am starting to wonder if you're also shifting at the same time and hearing the bushings make noise as you move the shifter... it gets harder to hear these subtle noises in the higher gears because of road noise.... and this would explain why it's feeling harder to shift... er.. nevermind, I see you tried clutch only while the car was off.

Sounds more like clutch master us leaking. When it leaks it will leak from the seal by the clutch pedal, brakes fluid being a lube between rubber and metal will cause it to squeak as you describe, will also put air in the line and cause it to be hard to shift. Happens twice on my protege exact same symptoms both times

Just shine a light up to where the clutch pedal is, if it's leaking you will see the fluid

i have no leaks/ loss of brake fluid anywhere fluid reservoir is full 100%. i notice it when pressing in clutch not even touching the shifter yet. even when the car is off and i press the clutch and i had my dad stand outside of the car and listen near the transmission and it was definitely squeaking near the transmission not near the slave or master cylinder of clutch. it is on factory clutch at 146,600 miles so would not at all surprise me if it was going out, just wanna be sure

well, lets see my dad was easy on it but i, several times and my sister a few times have learned to drive a stick on it, so that may have done it, plus its my first stick, so i maybe a little harder on it then i think, im going to have a mechanic take a listen just to be 100%
