It looks like the last Claybar thread was back in 2013, so I am posting my take.

Picked up my new 2015 CX-5 last week and after getting it home, I noticed how much *** was in the paint. (sat on dealer's lot since last November)

Off to WalMart to purchase a Mother's Claybar kit (about $20 USD w/tax). (contains 2-80gram claybars, showtime detailer, and cloth)
All I can say is that the paint is now like factory fresh after the claybar and an application of McGuire's paste wax (actually their cleaner wax for the 1st wax). I will re-wax in a few weeks with a pure Carnauba wax. Great results!

I'd probably use the Carnauba wax, not sure what they are using on cabanas these days :)

Good call I'm planning to do that myself

whoops...corrected...lol.(rolleyes)

Thanks...good luck with your claybar!
I have completed my job and it is like day and night! LOVE IT!

I've been using clay on the CX-5, but I was thinking about switching to a fine nanoskin sponge or Speedy prep towel. I know they are expensive, but I am interested in speeding up the process.
Stay with clay or has anyone tried nanoskin towels or sponges?

I'd like to know about the nanoskin towels myself

Hopefully I can give my experience soon. I ordered both the fine grade sponge and the wash mitt. I am just waiting for our wonderful pollen season to finish before I start in on the spring detail. I was convinced after reading a lot of positive posts on Autogeek. Last fall I dropped a brand new clay bar on the drive and had to throw it away. From what I have read if you drop the nanoskin you just rinse it off and you rinse if off after doing a panel rather than having to work it like clay. Most that have switched over to nanoskin state they save 30 minutes plus compared to using clay.

Nanoskin

Finally got around to fitting in the spring detail and used the Nanoskin for the first time.
It wore me out and I probably wasn't as detailed as a pro, but........

1. Pre soak with foam sprayer
2. Wash with bucket and soft sponge
3. Fine Nanoskin mitt with foam sprayer (couldn't really feel it because the heavy foam)
4. Water rinse and work with clean soft mitt
5. Fine Nanoskin with clay lubricant (could feel it take off some fine contaminants)
6. DA Polisher blue pad with Menzerna 4500
7. DA Polisher blue pad pre sealant (this helped remove the remaining Menzerna residue)
8. Wolfgang High Gloss 3.0 Sealant by hand
9. Wipe down with microfiber

I still have some more touch up and ran out of time last night.

Bad thing about white is it just being white. It really doesn't pop out like a dark color in bright sunlight. Good thing about white is the orange peel doesn't really pop out unless you look at a certain angle.

I feel like the Nanoskin saved me some time compared to using clay.

Mee too

Everyone's cars look great with both Clay and Nanoskin. I am curious about the nanoskin (is it very abrasive?)
My CX-5 was purchased new, but had been on the dealer's lot for about 5 months. There was a bunch of Sh** under the paint, and most was removed with the clay.

Must admit that I had not heard of Nanoskin until now, and have not seen it in local stores...only on the net...INFO PLEASE!
Clay wore me out...LOL

I can only speak for the fine version that it just has a rubbery sort of feel to it by hand. Kind of like clay one would wonder how it would work at all since it does not feel like it could remove anything. What I liked about it is being able to just rinse it off with water and no kneading it like clay. Also last year within the first minute a new bar of clay slipped out my hand onto the drive. It picked up all sorts of grit so I had to basically throw away a brand new bar of clay.

Like clay you just have to keep the surface really wet with something more than just plain water. Either a clay lube or soapy water.
I purchased the Nanoskin sponge ($12) and mitt ($45) from Amazon. Although a lot more expensive, the mitt works good and covers a larger area.

Just Used the Mcguires clay bar kit today for the first time. My car feels smooth as glass now. I plan on looking into that nano stuff.
