Break in period .... killing me..

UGGG when will the 600 miles come!!!! I am halfway there and I have to admit I have done some light spirited driving 2 or 3 times. Just to 4,500 RPM's from 2nd to 4th gear and only after it was at operating temp for 10 minutes.

But seriously, I cant wait to really open it up on some nice back roads. I am definately getting used to it and tomorrow is my first week anniversary!

Its also sad, that I promised myself no modifications but that didnt even last a week.

I would love a boost gauge, CAI, trunk Mod, tints, Ipod connector........ LOL I cant help myself.

I've only WOT'd in once in 2nd gear with a 2nd gen RX7 beside me killing his. Other than that, haven't beat on it yet, sitting on about 400 miles.

My speed 6 had 90 miles on it when I test drove it. No doubt in my mind it was already driven hard, so I didn't even bother. I'm not a big believer in that anyway. It's more like a precaution, but if you get a car with 10 or less miles on it, it can only be good to do it. Even with 5 miles on it there's a chance it was already driven hard. When they let me test drive a gray one with 32 miles, the guy told me to push it, so I knew they were all pushed already, so I got the color I wanted with more miles. The deal was too good though, so I didn't care. That day will come soon enough for you, so it's no big deal.

I thought the manual recommended varying revs throught the RPM range during the break in period? Is it any different for the MS6?

My V6 owner's manual certainly recommended that, and let's just say I was never bored during my break in period.

Drive it like you stole it, beast way to break it in. You gotta give all the parts a work out.

I've always believed in the break it in like you want it to run, but from what I've read, it's most important that that needs to happen in the first 10 or so miles, which you can bet technicians at the dealership took care to do. For some reason, I just have been on gas conservation trying to see what I can get out of it. Especially in the winter when I'm just not in the mood.....

Yup run her all the way throught the rev band. You want your rings to set.

There is only one chance to get them to set properly and that is now. If you want a long lasting motor, with no damage from improperly set rings run her pretty hard, not WOT but make sure to rev her all the way out. This has been tried and tested by engine builders for years.

Yep she is all broken in now, just a tick over 600 miles. Woot! As far as break in, I guess I am more of a middle of the road kind of guy.

I let the car get up to temperature before any hard driving. Then I would take it out on my favorite road coarse. About 40 miles of hills and turns. This is a good way to break up the day to day driving loads on the car.

I tended to keep the RPM's between 2000 up to 4500 during break in. No red Lining ever. Some moderate engine braking, so good pulls. No WOT.

Its in between the complete babying and the drive it like you stole it methods.
