Best Tires?

Ok, heres the deal: My SP9000's:mad: are just about gone and I am looking to invest in a new set of summer tires, but I'm torn between a few choices. I was just wondering what tires you guys have tried and if you had any feedback on them. I have been looking into the Bridgestone S-03 Pole Position(2thumbs), Michellin Pilot Sports and the Goodyear Eagle F1's. What do you guys think?

Also, I know its been discussed, but we can fit 215/45/17's in our Racing Harts no problem, right?

I have Kumho ecsta MXs and love em .. much better than the 9000's but I don't think I am gonna get the 19k miles on these I got out of the sp's .. oh well worth the fun.

MX's are soft and the 712 aren't. You'll stick in the corners with the MX and you'll squill (spelling) and screech and slide a bit.

MX's are a good price when compared to the SP's . They will range from $110-$120. The SP's are on sale at www.tirerack.com for $109 for the 215/45/17 WR. The ZR's are $129. So it's all up to you.

Ive seen the Kumhos bubble around the seals....anyone else experience this?

i'll go with federal ss595...not famous but japanese JCGT driver proved it good at drifting...it would be good for daily driving or monthly autocross...good thing is the low price (between $75 to $90 ea.) and bad ass looking...down side is the 240 treadwear...(another 18~20k miles again)

As some of you may know.. I am a tech at discount tire and i probably know more about tires and have more experience than any of you may ever have ... a lot of people talk about tires and wheels like that have dealt with it their whole lives but they really have no experience at all...

Federal , Kumho , and 90% of falken tires are the worst tires you can possibly buy for 17 inch and larger wheels... they are CRAP.

the bubbing you are talking about is from hitting a curb or pot hole and it separates the nylon cords in the sidewall thus creating a bubbling ... if any of your tires have this it is very dangerous to drive on , if you hit another pot hole or put too much pressure on this bubble it will EXPLODE...

Just remember when you buy tires you get EXACTLY what you pay for...
DO NOT buy tires based on the tread wear rating ... there is no standard test for this and the test is done on only ONE set of tires on the same car. there is no true way to tell how long your tires will last....

i have had many sets and have tested many sizes of tires on the stock mp3 wheels.

i have found that basically the well known companies make the best tires for 17's .... such as Michelin... though expensive they are basically the best....
Dunlop Sp9000 and SP9090 are in my mind the best for all around driving and performance... if you autocross and daily drive in the same tires SP9000's are the best.
Goodyear makes crap NEVER buy a goodyear.
Bridgestone S03 Pole Position tires are great.. Probably the 2nd best dot legal performance tire...
the best street legal performance tire is the Falken Azenis Sport (the only good tire made by falken that is worth spending money on.) is the best dot legal tire on the market... though keep in mind it is stiff and sticky and you will be lucky to get 12K miles out of them. 6-8k miles if you autocross on them.

I personally run Dunlop SP9090 's in a 225/45/17 in the summer.

and 225/45/17 Dunlop SP winter sport M2's in the winter.

I just sold a slightly used set on Pirelli P7000's because they didnt offer a good grip compared the the stock dunlop sp9000's.
so i bought the sp9090's for this year.

I beg to differ, I got 30,000 miles out of my stock Dunlops. Only two autocrosses on them but many many hours of touge racing.
I just switched over to Potenza RE730's (version 2) let's see how those turn out.

Usually, the guy that says he has the most experience or has the most knowledge.....usually doesn't. Just because someone sells or mounts tires on wheels, it doesn't make you certified tire pro. (Is there even such a title) Further more, I know of a few people who were able to pass the 20k miles mark on their Dunlops. Sean a.k.a. Wheelguru from Auto R&D is by far one the most knowledgably individuals when it comes to wheels/tires/wheel offsets etc. But you would never hear him say that he knows a lot, mainy because he's a humble guy. I'm not trying to piss on your toes man, but some statements need to be addressed. I acknowledge your wisdom, but just don't get ahead of yourself.

Anyhow, back to the topic. Has anyone considered the Pirelli PZero NERO. Those, from what I have heard are a very good summer time. With very little road noise. I plan on making these my next tire.

After 28k miles on the stock Dunlops, I have ordered Yokohama AVS ES100 205/45-17. I have heard really good things about these new Yoko's. These seem to be the closest thing to the SP9000 out there. They will not be incredibly soft, but it will probably be good enough for me. Personally, I don't need a competition tire that I would have to replace every 10k. They came out to be about $250 cheaper than the SP9000. Money not being an object, I probably would have gotten the Pole Position S03's, but at over $200/tire installed, the soft compound would have made them very expensive.

The Kumho 712's were about $40/set cheaper but I just had a feeling about the Yoko's. We'll see how they compare to the SP9000.

One intersting thing is that the stock Dunlops are rated at 871 rev/mile and the same size Yokohama are rated at 854 rev/mile. They also give .5" more tread width than the Dunlops.
