Automatic/stock internals?

Hello all - new user. I don't own a Protege but a friend of mine with only occasional access to the internet does (2002 ES) and was wondering about forced induction. He has an automatic (prefers not to drive stick) and was wondering:
1. Are these turbo kits doable without strengthening the engine internals? Is there a consensus hp level at which you can/can't run stock internals?
2. Same question but on the automatic transmission - can it be done, suggested max power levels, etc.

Thanks in advance,
Todd

You should have no problem running aturbo on the auto, it seems to work out fine. I would recommend upgrading the tranny fluid and keeping an eye on it, maybe a cooler and don't go nuts with the boost, too much tq will kill it.

Thanks for the reply on the automatic tranny ...

And what of the stock internals? Are they sufficent to run the boost levels for the turbos out there?

I have been running 6psi for some time no with no problems. Internals are the same for the enigines so you should be good up to 10 psi with proper tunning but I wouldn't go that high myself.

Actually the safe limit for an FMU setup is 8 psi unless you have something to control timing and fuel accuratly
And yes an auto tranny will work just fine with a turbo

I wasn't suggesting that running 10 psi on an FMU, but with lets say a stand alone I don't see a problem. Don't worry about your auto tranny though it still shifts fine and seems not to mind the power or tq.
