Air Conditioning Automatically coming on???

Any other owners notice that their A/C comes on automatically in the windshield and feet positions?

If you use the dash vents you have off and on control?

Is this right or am I going in for warranty. I checked the relay and the fuses. Everything is fine.

Is this just another Great Bull Sh#$ Mazda Idea???

:bs:

Yeah it does go automatically on on all cars. There is a how to on how to disengage it permantently making it work only when the button is pushed. Check the how-to at the protegeclub messageboard.

is it the AC or just the clutch?
the AC clutch will cycle on and off all the time to keep things from freezing up during the year.

The A/C comes on if you have the dial on defrost and then turn the temp dial to coldest. Seems to be a "handy" feature auto manufacturers added in a few years ago. I personally dont think that the A/C should come on unless you have the button pushed.

Yea I took the MP3 to the shop the other week and complained about that, all they said was thats the way its supposed to work. I can understand turning the AC on when its in Defrost, b/c this helps a lot with fogging problems. Its something with the compressed air from what i understand of it.

However, does anyone notice when going from recirc Bi-level(Top and Feet) and go to just feet that the selector changes to Fresh Air? The compressor also seems to turn on at this time, why would anyone want it to manually turn on in the foot position.

The AC comes on because the air is drier for defrosting purposes and such. It will not fog up the windows. Man, I have never seen people question so many things about a car :). Follow that thread to disable it, you can manually turn it on if/when you need it for defrost. Just curious- why would it matter? Gas mileage- maybe. Performance- the compressor turns off after a certain throttle posistion and at higher RPM's.

Don't get me wrong..... I'm not bitchin'. I just wanted to make sure that this was not a problem. I'm satisfied with the answers.

Thanks for your help!
