arp.

you can still used them. and they're better.

Correct... all have the same thread; M8 x 1.25 thread iirc.

You just order the shorter ones... 38mm I believe, for the mani to turbo and turbo to S pipe

(Mani studs are 45mm)

I'm getting so sick of the protege.

I just got back from meeting up with TreFlip to sell him my radio and alternator, I was sitting at a light and I went to go and no go. The car died. I turned it back on and it was running like s***, misfiring real bad, and the CEL is was on. I got to another light and it died on me again so I pulled over and there was a loud clicnking noise from the motor like something was loose, AGAIN. I kept driving it to get it home and the CEL kept flashing at me. Before I got home, the clicking noise stopped and the CEL stopped flashing at me but it still ran rough.

It sounds like a subbie, the clicking must of been something that broke and go destroyed by the motor and the misfire leads me to believe one of my spark plugs fouled...

Not a big deal BUT WHY is another one fouled? One fouled on me back in July and I replaced all 4. Last thing I need is a fouled spark plug every other month.]

I have to wait for the motor to cool off before I can check the plugs, but I'm pretty sure thats what it is.

Ideas guys?

If they're bad, could the keep ******* up the spark plugs? Is there anyway I can check the coilpacks besides replacing them?

there is a way 2 check if they are bad, but i dont know how. mine crapped out here and there giving me misfire and rough running + CEL for a few times. i changed plugs and wires and it came back. turned out to be the coilpacks. totally gave up on me on a day it was pouring out. called around and had to go to 2 stores to get both coilpacks. it stopped raining for 10 minutes and i threw them on real quick and ive been good ever since

yea they like 20 somtin a pop @ autozone. they might tell u that u need 4 tho. tell them to stfu lol. pepboyz is like 65ish. i have one of each due to time of emergency

Can't remember if the numbers go from left to right, but cylinder 4 was blown. The same one that blew last time too.

The last one that blew, it was fused together but we gaped it so I could get to a parts store.

I just replaced cylinder 4 with one of the old ones for now.

Fixed my problem, temporarily. I guess I need to get new wires and coils. Anyone wanna show/tell me how to do the 1.8 conversion, might as well do it if I'm going to replace the stuff.

I've got the parts for it. For the complete conversion you will need:

1.8L coil packs and mounting bracket
1.8L plug wires
626 valve cover

The coil packs can be mounted right on the front corner of the block, but that is unlikely since you will have a turbo most likely blocking the way soon. I'm gonna try and mount mine back near the cruise control bracket, under the strut bar. THe 626 VC gets rid of the holes where you mount the 2.0 coils, allowing the 1.8 plug wire to sit flush against the VC without cutting it. If you keep the 2.0 VC, you will have to trim the outer edges of the plug wire to get it to sit flush.

I did it.....

It is easy to do. I just moved the coils location even more. (cooler temp) I could do a how to. I got all the pics. Easy

Just an FYI, I've heard of a lot of turbo guys having problems with the 1.8L coilpacks. Fatti was at Phen's cookout and was saying his were giving him crap... Just something to think about.

I'd sure love to find Mazda's notes on this. If there wasn't something gained by setting up the "coil on plug" system then why'd they do it? And if it only costs $50 to replace them when they crap out, why convert to a system that wasn't intended? Hell, I've even heard stories about people having car trouble after switching to expensive aftermarket wires or plugs and having the problem resolved by going back to the stockers. Same with belts...
Buy more expensive parts so the car runs better, only to find that the car runs worse.... hmmmmmm(uhm)

Btw Dub, speaking of plugs, you may want to consider a cooler heat range... but in light of my rant here, nevermind...
