Hey Mazda fans,
I'm looking for a relatively economical solution - any input or offers would be great. Sorry if this is long-winded.
I've got a black 02 MPV on stock rims (16 x 6.5 twisted spoke) that needs 4 new tires soon (currently 215/60-16).
I've also got a white 02 Protege5 for which I just bought 2 new tires (195/50-16) - the other two were fine.
It's on stock 16 x 6 twisted spoke (not chrome).
Come to find out, the Chicago potholes killed more than tires - at least 2 rims were toast on the Protege5
so I bought a couple on Craigslist - one was kinda ok...one not so much. Alas a waste of $$.
So I have six P5 rims, of which I'm fairly comfortable that 2 are good other than scratches - the others may be salvageable, but I really don't know. Seems it costs as much to fix a rim as to buy one and some can't be fixed.
After reading many of the fine posts here, I think the MPV rims will fit on the P5 and I can mount the stock P5 tires on them even though they're 0.5" wider. (If this is incorrect, someone please tell me.)
So I'd like to either:
buy a set of wheels w/ good tires that would fit the MPV and then mount the old MPV rims on the P5 (and sell the 2 good P5 ones?)
or
buy two stock P5 rims, and then I'll hit a retail tire store for the MPV.
or
buy a new set of 4 rims for the P5 - aftermarket or other Mazda OEM that would fit. It would be nice if I could use the existing tires since they're in good shape.
or
Any other trades / barters / solutions / suggestions....
Chicago area or western Michigan location would be great to avoid shipping costs.
