Worth the time? Hell MONEY?!

Long-time viewer/user of this site.First time post. Kudos to everyone who has posted useful information.Sup people, I've got a partner in Cali that has a '03 MSP with a dead motor. He told me he's swapin an '07 CX7 3.4 turbo motor in its place. This motor has the the intercooler placed on top. Is this even possible? I know the motor is taller. He told me he's using the tranny out of it too. I know its not a direct swap, but is the fab/R&D time worth it?

i would say hell no its not worth it, stay with the 2.0 forge the motor but a nice fmic on it and a gt28rs with some basic other mods nice tune and make nice whp, plus it will be alot cheaper to do and it will be faster

Jesus I've heard of some crazy ass ideas but if he pulls off that swap, I will be in shock. It's definitely not the best choice for a swap but it would certainly be one of if not the most unique proteges ever.

even if some how you get this thing to fit in there wiring is going to be a b**** to do and all that, if money is not an issue for him **** it do it but if i had the money its going to take to make this work i would be going after the most whp title haha

I assume you mean the 2.3L turbo DISI MZR, unless this cx-7 already had some kind of crazy swap done! But yeah, same motor as the speed3/6, and the idea has been thrown up by other before, but to the same response.

A built FS-DE with a gt28rs can easily put down the same numbers as the motor your friend got, and for a very small fraction of the cost of the road he's headed down right now. Besides all the mechanical BS he's going to have to deal with (custom mounting, custom axles, etc), the CX-7 only came with a 6speed auto that year, and the electrical work is probably going to be enormous.

The $800 he spent on that motor/tranny is going to be negligible compared to the rest of the work, so if your buddy bought that motor because it was cheaper than a replacement protege block, he's in for a rude awakening.

Haha I completely passed over the 3.4 turbo motor part of the post. Like everyone said, unless he has some SERIOUS cash and time, it's not worth it in the slightest form of the word.

hahahaha
LMAO

i laugh at these posts
some dude, with a post count of 3, decides to do the ultimate swap, never posts pictures of donor motor/car or victim car, and disappears into thin air....classic!

theres no need to laugh man some of us arent the sharpest tools in the shed hell ive had my msp for over a year and im still a newb to it haha
but you should tell your buddy to join

Honestly I don't see what all the rant is. It is VERY possible, I have even reviewed the idea for it on my car myself. Yes the engine is taller...lose the interfooler and go FMIC. So you'll need axles and engine mounts. So what. I rather spend the extra cash to get a 2.3 ANY day over going back and building my motor.

For a few simple reasons, in stock format you are already at what the built FSDE motor makes with serious mods. A GT28RS is no cheap turbo, don't forget the rods and pistons, bearings, seals, shop time to build motor, engine management, (that is not cheap to pay to tune) and time the engine will be down to prep plus time to tune and perfect it. While you could run a custom DP and exhaust and throw in custom mounts and axles is not hard at all with a decent fab shop. If you want the speedo to work why not fab up something to fit the stock MS3 dash?! People it's not like he's saying go RWD or AWD.

And some shops will do great work for not a whole lot of money, I would say that this is alot of trouble but if he pulls if off it will be a one of a kind msp, thats for dang sure!!! (drive2)

as much as your stuff makes sense...a sr20det is more feasable...or a honda ka20 or whatever it's called...hell..a evo engine is doable too...and is just as tall as the msp....

deep pockets is the answer here...not imagination or time.

I'll believe it when I see it!!!
Plus the receipts and and decent time line.
For 5K you could have speedcircuit send you a brand new fully built motor add another $500 install at that great work low price shop and toss another 1K for a Gt28RS...**** spring the extra couple hundred and drop in the Gt3071R. Tune it with a Split second and your basically done engine wise!!!
I don't see a CX7, MZ3,MS3, MZ6,MS6 swap costing less then 8-9K. Just the wiring alone will run you 2k.
But hey I don't want sound like a pecimist.
I consider myself a realist

do it you gota have a firstimer for something, we just started swapping in j series motors into hondas that normally only take 4 cyl swaps.. one guy with an imgination and now i get calls to the shop about it every day.
