Windshield wiper problem

I got out to my ice covered car this morning and turned it on. I forgot that I had the wipers on auto. Well, the wiper motor was able to break out of the ice but the wiper also managed to get bent or the gear slipped, because the driver side wiper is now 1 inch closer to the hood and sitting slighly under the passenger side wiper. Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone know how fix it without possibly breaking the wiper off?

It sounds to me like the driver side wiper linkage possibly got bent. Normally if the arm slips on the spindle, it's a BAD slip that renders the arm useless when you turn the wipers on. I've never witnessed one slip once, and work fine later (although I guess it's possible).

To correct it, unbolt the arm from the spindle, re-position it and bolt it back down. Be careful to match up the teeth on the spindle with the ones on the arm, and support the arm (keep it still) when you're loosening / tightening the bolt.
