Depending upon where you live most counties will not let you put an older motor in a newer car b/c of emissions. Also I'm pretty sure all the wiring and motor mounts would be different so it would be a lot more work than just swapping the motor in.
If it is a2.2 it's probably a f2t. Which is a million times better than an fsde. Universal tune with boost bump is usually around 200 whp and 280 wtq. Putting it in a protege would be a pain though
