Wierd noise from either clutch or transmission?

I understand this topic had been discuss many times before but please give me your thoughts and opinions before I go to the Mazda dealership.

There is a soft "blurrrr" noise in all gears when my RPM is at 2000. This only happens between 2000 - 2150 rpm, and especially when I shift from 1 to 2. Also, if I place my hand firmly on the shift knob I could feel it vibrate more than it should at 2000 rmp. Could the cause be from the clutch? Could it be the transmission? Could this lead to big costly problems?

I need to know before I go to the dealership. I know they will give me a hard time on this issue. They claim, "Oh nooo, these Protege's transmission are the strongest we ever had, even stronger than Honda's."

Thank you all for your time and responses.

Hey 905MP3

I'm in Madison too. I know there is another mp3 from madison on this board, and there is a p5 at UW Whitewater. We should have a meet some time. PS do you know about Friday and Saturday Nights at the Eastside shopko?

Alright, we have power now.....

hey that is great that you guys live here too. We should meet up one of these days. I drive the blue MP3 with the "Grassrootsmotorsport.com" windshield decal. I know that there are other MP3 and P5 running around in this town, but I think we should really meet somewhere and just sit back and share ideas.

Where and when do you guys want to meet?

Sincerely,
Mengy

If you guys come across me just follow me and I'll pull over to say Hi. That is, only if I'm not in hurry to go somewhere. Take care Madison Proteges. :D

P.S. What about Friday and Saturday on the Shopko parking lot? Which shopko, I'm new here in Madison so I don't know how many Shopko are here. I moved here from Appleton.

Heya, I am the other blue MP3 in town (unless there is a third). Are you the one that happens to be parked at the First Federal Bank at West Towne all the time? There was another blue MP3 here, and the guy is on this boards sometimes. He is trobbins, but recently moved a few miles up north. Anyhow, yeah, a meet is definitely in order. It would be a good time. Are you all of drinking age? It would be even more fun to talk cars while slightly intoxicating ourselves :D.

As for the dealer problem you had, I assume you are talking about Don Miller. I have had pretty decent experiences with them. They've shown a pretty caring attitude about the clunking noise in the suspension and trying to get information for me on fixes etc.

However, I also brought my car in because I was noticing it very hard to get from 1st to 2nd when over 5000rpms. It turned out that I was probably just letting out the clutch a bit too soon, but I figured I'd tell them it was a problem so they could fix it if I screwed anything up. When I walked in, they were VERY quick to say the same thing you said about it being a strong transmission etc. On the phone, the guy also told me that they had a tech bulletin to watch for signs of abuse on all Proteges on any complaints on transmissions.

Mazda or Don Miller usually calls me a few days after any service for a survey, and I actually mentioned to them that I was rather upset that they were so quick to suggest that I had been abusing my car.

Blech. Good luck, hope you get somewhere with this.

Chris

Understood...........

I see that same MP3 that is parked near that bank off of Gammon rode. That MP3 is not mine...:) I reside off of Fish Hatchery, and the only place that I really travel to is the UW campus.

Don Miller told me that another MP3 came in a few months ago that had blown pistons from using NOS. Who was that?

Hmm, dunno. We should put a small "www.protegemp3.com" piece of paper under their windshield :). Of course, I wouldn't want some stranger playing around my car, heh.

So are you a student 905? I graduated from the UW about 1.5 years ago with a computer sciences degree. I now work for MyWeather, doing web weather stuff. If you've ever heard of Channel 27 Microcast, thats us, and if you use the desktop weather software from it, that was me :).

Chris

I don't know about a protegemp3.com sticker, but I will put a protege5.com sticker under there. I graduated this summer with an ag journalism degree. I now work for The Madison Club, doing PR & Marketing, but mostly print design and web design

Education......

Hi guys,

Yea, I'm here for school. I graduated with a criminal justice/ pre-law degree, now I'm a graduate student at the school of social work and criminology. I'll be finishing up May of 2004. I'm so sick of school and research papers but it is something that I have to do. I hope to work for the Federal court when I graduate.

Do you guys want to get together sometimes? I am so sick of talking about school related issues, I want to converse about something else.

later guys, take care.

lol

Yeah, we should. We started talking about this in a regional thread. I think we should move this conversation to ther so we don't tick off some people.

On another note, How about that damn snow this morning!

No, I was talking about the unknown MP3 in the First Federal bank parking lot. I was saying we should slip a piece of paper that has "www.protegemp3.com" under their wiper to get them to sign up here :). I wouldn't expect you to put a protegemp3 sticker on a protege5 :D.

So 905, have you had any luck with your noises and the dealership?

If you guys meet, I hope you have fun. Wish I could be there, but hopefully this will become a more regular thing.

Chris

The meet

The noise in my car still exist and I have not taken it to the dealer yet. I have been busy with studies and papers.

I'm going home this weekend to change my wheels into winter tires. I'll be back on Sunday. We could do somthing then.

I suggest a time: Sunday 17, at 3:30 afternoon, on the Shopko parking lot, SouthTown Mall.

What do all of you guys think?

Gotta go.

Mengy

I think I could make it, but it depends on what the wife has in store for me. Is this a good place, or whould we maybe meet somewhere out by west town since three of us live out there?
