Which MS3 Brake Pads for Track & Street Use

My neighbor bought an MS3 and he's going to be doing a Trackmasters event at Watkins Glen. He'll be there for the entire weekend. The guy who turned him on to the event told him he needs to get new brake pads for the event to handle the abuse. Here's my questions:

1) Are stock MS3 pads (1 month old) good enough for the event
2) Is stock isn't good enough, what are some options that wouldn't be a nuisance on the street?

Well right after I posted I went to a few vendors sites and saw Hawk HPS, Hawk HP+, Rotora Ceramic, and EBC green stuff were options (AutoExe are way too expensive). I don't think EBC Green stuff would be an option unless someone corrects me, because they are a good street upgrade and can handle some autocross but not much more. EBC Yellow would be a good option, but I don't think they are being made yet.

When is the event? I would like to head out with you all if work does not interfere.

axxis ult (pbr) pads.. hella pad, cheap and much higher temp than the hps pad.. those are like 500-600 deg and axxis is like 1000deg and still works great when cold.. its been my favorite thus far.. -on a protege5-

A bunch of track events occurred for testing with media types way back during the cars intro. Some reported that stock pads and rotors showed little fade and good feel. Others swapped up right away. 60-0 distance is awesome. with coilovers [Edmunds testing] she approaches the upper tier. I need to replace pads and have considered this for a while. Ebc offers a nice range of pads as does Hawk, I will replace with EBC but the stock system reported to be up to the job although I have over tasked mine. they are the best I have experienced from 140 to 60 in a rush. But I am just a regular guy.

cool

That just means your rotors won't last as long. I always replace my rotors when I replace my pads, so I'm not really concerned if it eats through them. I have never worn out a rotor before the pads wear out.

WRCProtege, Axxis doesn't have anything listed for the MS3 specifically.

The Watkins Glen event is May 3-4. I'm not going to the event, just my neighbor. I'll probably head out there next year when I have my new tires.

OK, you do NOT want to ever use EBC Greens. They are terrible street pads.

For street, get the Hawk HPS. I have them and they're great. For track, get the HP+. He's going to be doing a lot of high-speed braking at WG, so he'll need something at that level. If Hawk has the Blue pad avail for our cars, I would even recommend that instead, as that's an even more aggressive pad.

Also, don't even think about the ceramic pads from any vendor. They simply aren't meant for track use.

AND, I would highly recommend he has a brake fluid flush with racing fluid. I had a lot of problems when I tracked my car the first time because the brakes overheated easily.

He decided to go with Hawk HPS pads. This is his first time to the track EVER and it's a novice school, so I don't think they will be having him go balls to the wall. I have some ATE Super Blue fluid that we'll use for a full flush.

I haven't had any problems with my EBC Greens and actually really like them. I just ordered Reds for Auto-X/Street use so I'll be able to compare them.
