Which guage to buy next !

So I have a triple guage mount and the empty hole is driving me insane. Time for a new gauge. Ill probably buy a prosport because I can't bear spending over 150 bucks for 1 Defi gauge.

I have a boost gauge / scan gauge (like dashhawk)

What is a good option for a 3rd gauge. Seems like it comes down to preference. Im brewing between oil temp, oil pressure, water temp, or fuel pressure.

How important is water temp in our cars?? Not a huge priority imo in our cars that aren't throwing down THAT much hp. Could be wrong though.

We already have a stock oil temp gauge. Yes its not pinpoint accurate but its good enough to show you if something is off.

That leaves oil pressure and fuel pressure. Im leaning towards fuel but there aren't many thread about it here and its pretty rare it seems. Also might be a hard install which I don't feel like doing.

So that leaves oil pressure. Don't know how hard of an install it is but im sure its easier than fuel.

Any adivce / thoughs would be appreciated.

Thanks

wat about volts? idk if u have any after market stero or anything like that but that might help. or u can get a AFR, like a wideband or somthing like that

My scangauge already reads A/F ratios via the factory wideband. Its pretty accurate so I don't see the need to drop 300 bucks for an AEM wideband. I have it set reading knock and A/F.

I don't even know why volts are important lol. Aside from my gauges all other electrical stuff is still stock.

Thanks for the response.

i just saw that A/F is an option now on the scangauge, awesome!

which code did you use from the list? do you remember?

sorry for the threadjack...

If you're going to do an oil press. gauge, I'm fairly certain you'll need to get the spin-on conversion and the oil sandwich plate to plumb in the sender for the oil press. gauge. I definitely think it's worth doing that over coolant temp, and I'd look into monitoring that with the Scangauge (the DH can read it, so I would imagine the SG can do it as well).

There's a possibility that there's the idiot light sender and you may be able to tap into that, but I don't know for certain a way to do it other than the sandwich plate and conversion.

But yeah, oil pressure gets my vote.

Thanks everyone for the responses.

Yeah steve thats what it looks like im going to do. The sandwitch plate seems easy to install (unscrew oil filter and stick it on) and it has what you need for both oil pressure and temp. I might put my boost gauge back between the tach / speedometer and get both oil temp / pressure gauges.

thats what i did. the plate makes it real easy to hook up oil gauges. but you'll need to do the spin on oil conversion in order to use the plate.

just did mine a few months ago. here's a lil pic for ya!

thx mister. How long does the spin on take ?? I thought the conversion was just a fancy way of saying you have that plate installed ?

it was pretty easy really. the hardest part was takin off the oil cooler. theres only one bolt, but its really hard to get to. and its on there real tight too. i ended up draining the coolant and just unhooking it. but not a big deal non the less. 4 bolts hold it on. and it will make oil changes mess free. hopefully!

Thanks for the help mister. Couple more questions. Do you have to drain all the oil to install a spin on ?? I just changed my oil like 800 miles ago. And can you install an oil temp gauge without it ???

No, everyone I've talked to that's done it has drained it and done it during an oil change. I've heard the oil cooler bolt is a PITA, but with the right tools you can get it no problem.

I think I'll end up doing the spin-on conversion in the near future.

yes, you should do a complete oil change during the install.

i'm sure its possible to hook up the temp send unit some how but i dont know. the plate thing makes it real easy. but you have to the spin on conversion in order to use the plate.

spin on conversion oil changes are super easy compared to the stock catridge. so the whole speil is worth it in the long run.

How is it so much easier I dont understand. With the stock setup you just drain the oil . . . kind of messy how it drips down the block but whatever. THen pop off the oil filter cartridge and replace it . . . done. Thats the first time I ever saw my oil being changed though. Had usually done it at a "trustworthy" mobil fast lube place. Took it to a firestone last change so I could take a look underneath with it in the air. With my own oil of course they only charged me 12 bucks including the filter lol. 12 bucks well worth the potential mess imo. The guy who changed the oil appeared to not know wtf he was doing lol. Maybe it was the funky mazda setep . . .
