Whats your FICO score?

Just like I do every year in November, I check my Credit for blemishes, etc.
I also get a FICO Credit Score to see how I'm doing. I found out that FICO+Credit score was cheapest from myfico.com (only 12.95). Equifax (who i usually use) costs $15 for both.

Anyway,
my score went from 765 last Nov to 771 this Nov.
I have way too much credit for my own good ;)

I would check but I don't wanna spend money on it. I should have perfect credit since I have never missed a payment.

because you haven't missed a payment doesn't really mean anything...

Some dickhead/heads ran my credit 16 times last yr without my permission and knocked my score down. I did not find out until I went to build my house. It made no difference but it sucks that some asshole company you've never heard of can run your credit to see if they want to market to you and affect your score. It had a "b" by each run which supposedly signifies buy so it looked like I was attempting to purchase something when I had no knowledge of the event.<O:p</O:p

It has been removed but I would love to kick those people in the crotch for every time they ran it.

Well, it certainly affects the score, but I agree that it is not the sole determining factor.

From the providian site:
The basic credit scoring formula takes into account several factors from your credit report. The impact of each element fluctuates based on your own credit profile:
  • Payment history A good record of on-time payments will help boost your credit score.
  • Outstanding debt Balances above 50 percent of your credit limits will harm your credit. Aim for balances under 30 percent.
  • Credit account history An established credit history makes you a less risky borrower. Think twice before closing old accounts before a loan application.
  • Recent inquiries When a lender or business checks your credit, it causes a hard inquiry and a slight ding to your credit score. Apply for new credit in moderation.
  • Types of credit A healthy credit profile has a balanced mix of credit accounts and loans

yup providian does it for me too, i have a 651 right now, down a little from earlier this year, but i dont use credit too much. I have heard the more you have on credit/by your payments that you make each month will make it a better score. (IE shows you can make payments, whereas if you dont have anything then they dont know about you and how you can make payments on time.) I was going to put all my debt onto one card earlier this year and my loan officer told me not to as it would lower my score. I didnt, and i dont have much left on credit. Im sure if i used my credit to buy more instead of cash it would be better.

exactly as peepsalot posted, carrying balances and making ontime payments will boost your score. I personally dont like carrying balances, i like to use cash.

well obviously it WILL affect your score, but just because you make all payments won't exactly give you the best score possible, that's what i really meant shoulda specified...

i am in the mid 700's......i have great credit and am able to spend/charge way more than i can afford to pay for....the danger!!!

there are only 3 places to get a credit history. There are many websites that give you one, but they all get one thru one of the three credit companies-
Equifax, Experian, or Trans Union. And to make a request, you STILL have to virtually know whats going on financially wise. It asks you before giving you a report info about "recent credit history" etc.

I use to work at Equifax. I get all mine for free. I have every imagable product equifax offers.
Just got a 3 in 1 score power 737

Also if u request a copy of your credit report they ahve ot give it to you if u live in like GA, CT, CA, and a few other states.. But this is snail mail only

Actually just ran mine and my wife's the other day as we are picking up some investment property. Mine 676, hers 771, obviouly I sucked at managing money more than her in the past(homework) . Actually you can get your score for $5 if you sign up for Experian's credit monitoring service. If you just need you score and not the service you can cancel within the first month and there is no charge except the $5 for the FICO score.

ive always thought about credit monitoring since I do a LOT of business online, payments, etc, as a safeguard, but its too expensive.
