Have never cleaned my engine bay before and not sure what I can use to clean it and where i should not spray water or chemicals any input is appreciated. Thank in advance. (cabpatch)

I would start with using plastic and good tape to seal off the air filter/intake area, also remove the intercooler shroud and intercooler, remove from car, clean separately, then clean with a rag the valve cover and very top of engine including coil packs, carefully not to get any water into the boots / coil area. then cover the coil packs with more plastic and water proof tape, at this point you have the sensitive bits protected from water, now you can apply degreaser and hose off carefully the engine bay. at least thats how I would approach it. it might be easier to drain if you remove the plastic skid cover under the engine bay.

I would invest in some sort of wire/wheel brush as well. Helps to dig out dirt stuck in the IC fins and also dirt that won't be removed by simply using a degreaser, although, it should get rid of most of it. An engine detailer spray also goes a long way, really makes all the black plastics shine! You can get it for like 6 bucks at Autozone, its in a silver can.

your engine gets plenty wet when it rains, especially during hard storms.

just cover the alternators and exposed connections. then use degreaser and water from a hose. wipe clean and done
