What is the Protege5 ES and how does it differ from the standard Protege5?

Hey, first post here. Pretty simple questsion, I'm looking to buy a Protege5, around 2002-2003, but find very little information online. When I look on Craigslist some ads list their Protege5 as an ES. What does that mean and how does it differ from a standard protege5?

It's just the model of it. Like my protege is the ES model, it has the bigger 2.0 engine rather than the 1.8.

There is no es model for the p5 or any protege for that matter
Protege models for 01-03 are as follows
Dx- base
Lx- 2.0 more standard options
Mp3-made only in 01
Mazdaspeed- 03 only
P5- basicly an lx hatch back

^Not for the P5, they all came with the 2L engine. I don't think the "ES" really means anything, the P5s are all pretty much the same...

I stand corrected about there being no es model protege I've never seen one

Most manufacturers have the diff model names for different standard options

My civic dx is power nothing no tach, the lx has power windows and locks and a tach, ex gets the same options as lx plus sunroof and better motor

If the Protege Es doesn't exist it would be really weird because I drive one. The 4 door sedan came in an es model.

never heard of a protege 5 es. considering the p5 is in itself a sub model of the protege...sooooo anyways...the P5 "ES" doesn't exist...there is an ES but it is a sedan not a hatchback...

ES was a protege model. There is no P5 ES...the P5 didn't come in different models. When people list a "Protege5 ES" on craigslist, they don't know what they're talking about.

Exactly. The Protege 5 is simply that MP5 Hatchback no submodel. My ES is the sedan and happens to be the only real ES model from Mazda. Also when buying from craigslist people will typically post whatever they feel will give them the most notoriety to get their stuff sold.

Technically the Protege 5 is exactly like a Protege Sedan ES. Has the same faux Carbon fiber add ons like the P5, same seats, etc. Only difference is that one is a hatch back with round fog lights ( as all p5's are ) and the other is a sedan. But as stated above the Protege5 has no ES markings but is essentially an ES.

I know this as I bought the front driver side seat, center radio trim, lower trim panels, shocks and various other parts off of a Laser Blue ES from a junk yard a while back. Seats fabric pattern and inside panels were exactly the same, window switch covers were silver and so forth. Even had the steering wheel airbag Mazda symbol with the faux carbon fiber inlay. Also had black seat belts and if equipped came with ABS as the knuckles had the sensors on it and was 5 lug. Sadly last time I went back for more parts it was sent to the crusher.

ES was a protege model. There is no P5 ES...the P5 didn't come in different models. When people list a "Protege5 ES" on craigslist, they don't know what they're talking about.

People on Craigslist don't know what their talking about period, that's why you find ads for protege5 es and Chevy cevoliers(that's right they can't spell cavalier)....Also saw an ad that said the head gasket was blown and that the car didn't require that part so it was a good buy, wtf? Btw anyone in SC that's looking for a P5 there is one in myrtle beach that has 45,000 miles for $5000,runs good I took a look at it.

There's no P5 ES thats all only in the sedans .... P5 models some have leather seats and other then that everything else is the same

Really........ the trim on the Protege5 is available with ES trim as to why it is refered to as an ES. It is ES trim plus P5 specific features so yes it can and is considered an ES. It is considered an ES by Motor Vehicle and even your insurance company. Like I stated before they have the same interior as in the pattern on the seats, faux CF trim and so forth. I removed items from an ES Sedan for my P5 to complete the interior and engine bay.

Lets not make this into a Lancer/Evo - SRT4/Neon ordeal now.
