What have you done to your CX-5 today?

Had a Suntek clear bra installed yesterday. Full hood, bumper, mirrors and partial fender. Not much to see of course but here are the lines on the fender and some weird cutouts around the fogs you can't see unless you get on your hands and knees. There is one blemish on the film that looks like a scratch on the hood which is a bit annoying but again it's not THAT noticeable unless you are looking for flaws.

I'm having issues posting photos. I can't even log in to photobucket. Page won't even open on any device I try. I tried with Drive and they look like broken links. Can you guys see the pictures?

No. Download the Tapatalk app on your phone and you can upload from there very easily, without having to use an image hoster.

How much are they getting for that in So Cal? In the Bay Area, 2 local dealers quoted me around $950! I passed.

One of the selling points of this film is that it is easy to strip off/replace if it gets damaged. Why not ask the installer to do just that since they screwed up? Are you sure it's not in the paint underneath?

No it's not the paint. I figure if you look hard enough you are going to find some minor flaws in any kind of install like this. The close up makes it look worse than it is as you can see from the pic of the whole hood. I'm not sure it was so much of a screw up as a blemish on the film.

The installer tinted my front windows as well. I got a ticket the very next day. He stripped and re-tinted them free of charge so I'm hesitant to b**** about something so relatively minor.

One thing to consider when getting partial hood and fenders applied with paint protection film is the paint will fade differently under it especially if it's metallic or pearl. This happened to my 3 when I had the old film removed. So my detailer who also applies paint protection film suggests doing the whole hood and fenders. I went the cheaper route and didn't get the hood or fenders applied with ppf.

Well doing nothing certainly is cheaper than doing something. (scratch)

"Will my vehicle fade differently under paint protection film?
No. 3M/VentureShield, Xpel, PremiumShield, and SunTek Paint Protection Film is UV stable, but will allow UV rays to pass through the film safely. This feature eliminates the "two paint shades" problem resulting from traditional "bras.""

I had 3M venture shield on my 3 and the paint faded differently. Not as bad as others I've seen but it's noticeable in some angles. Just sharing my experience.

Well I don't have first hand experience and you do so thanks for sharing. Hopefully the Suntek won't have that problem. How long ago did you have it installed?

I think it is something that can be repaired with a good claybar, wax, and then polish after removal to blend. The films allow UV through but they aren't allowing wear and tear to the clear coat that the rest of the body is getting.

I had it on from 11/2010 to 2/2014. The film was already starting to yellow at that point.

I had the car clayed, polished and opti-coated after that but you cloud still see the mismatch in shade.

I think you're ok when the film is brand new but once it starts to yellow, that might be when your paint starts to fade differently.

That blemish I mentioned on the film is gone. It's been pretty warm here, maybe the film expanded or something and "healed itself" like it's advertised to do. Maybe just needed to cure longer. I also had some marks on the hood after I got it detailed that looked like a bunch of very faints scratches under my garage lights but disappeared in natural light. Those are gone too. Clay bar must have taken care of that or the film is obscuring it. Anyway I gave her a bath today and took a bunch of pics. She may never look this good again. Yeah She's all stock so not too exciting but I think I'm mostly done with her.

The SunTek comes with a 5 year warranty so hopefully i'll at least be good until the car is paid off, then maybe have it done again if it needs it. The Xpel comes with a 10 year warranty which is nice. I think it's also thicker and more expensive and reportedly harder to work with.

Had the CX-5 coated in Ceramic Pro 9h. Had my wife's car coated a month ago and loved the outcome so decided to do mine as well.
With the ease of maintenance and the scratch resistance I found the cost to be completely worth it. W/ the prep work & coating it was $990.

Agreed. It is warrantied, they do a yearly inspection and decontamination so we'll see how it holds up.
