What engine differences are in an 01 MP3 vs 02 2.0 na Protege 5?

I have heard the computer from an 01 will add some power differences, but what else from this car would be an upgrade for the 02 P5?

the ONLY difference between the MP3 engine and the Protege5 engine is the intake manifold, which the pro5 manifold can be modified to be the same quite easily. the ECU has a different timing curve, and adds a little smoothness, and about 5hp to the top end. a little bit more hp came from the intake manifold difference.

The MP3 essentially has the JDM manifold as far as I can tell given that it doesnt have VCTS. The ECU also has a different map, otherwise the same.

its "similar" to the JDM manifold, but its different enough to be its own. yes, there is no VTCS. however, if you take the VTCS out of the stock Protege5/ES manifold and lightly smooth the transition, you have an MP3 manifold. the JDM manifolds have additional resonance chambers and protrusions that are not present in any of the USDM manifolds.

When you say intake manifold, is that both upper and lower, or one over the other?
Are the Camshafts the same ?

Upper I believe

As was stated its the same as an fsde. Cams rods pistons crank and head

The FS-ZE intake has extra chambers, the FS-DE doesn't though.

You will need to run Premuim in an MP3 as well.
