Anybody have any advice for me? I have a service appt to finally fix the rear sway bar bushings. Does anyone know the NEW stock number for the correct bushings yet? If so please tell me.
Thanks guys

Plus has anyones shiftknob leather start to peel away and fall apart yet?

:(

Yeah the shiftknobs don't last very long, it is the same material they used on the probe shiftknob and they were real bad about peeling.

Sorry about your car, sounds like you are having some issues with Mazda.

ya thanks Silver,

Cool I am going to have them order me another one asap

Ya the mazda rear swaybars on mp3's suck A$$. the bushings are to small for the bar

BN7H-38-156C is the part number x2 that they need to replace.
Good luck. There is a technical Service bulletin on this they should have at the dealership.
:)

funny this should come up, I was at the dealer again today asking about what was the next step for me.

For those that have kept up with my story. I have had the bushings replaced at least 8 times. Links, swaybar....everything. I had the whole end redone about 1 month ago, and it lasted about 4 days....no joke....4 days before the clunk came back. I had the sway bars done again, all linkages, and bushings, and every bolt and nut back there done all at once. I figure, lets start on a clean slate, and the dealer agreed. That was including the NEW part number for the bushings.

and the noise came back.......4 days later.

So, I have given up, read my sig. And I'm serious. I was in today asking about what is Mazda going to do for me....lets say I was interested in a MSP......what would it cost. What would they give me for the damn clunking mp3? ???

I didn't really get anywhere, as price is still nothing but speculation at this point on the msp...at least in Canada. The cars btw, are still in Vancouver at the docks...at least that's what he was told and I seen the very sheet from Mazda Canada myself.

I've been lucky in once sense that My dealership has been very Cooperative. At least most of them. The Manager, salesman and most of the mechanics have been Great. I highly recommend Penney Mazda here in Corner Brook of NF if anyone is out this way......doubt it. I blame Mazda of Canada for this problem. It's their fault they haven't come up with a REAL fix, or trained their mechanics on the MP3's and soon to be MSP special parts. MY dealer has done just about everything they can do....
SO, the Canadian rep is due in on a certain day this month, and I'm going up on that day, and he and I are going for a little drive.

I want to show him the clunk......and something else that's driving me nuts. All 4 struts squeak like pigs going over bumps and dips in the road. Specially when it's cold. This always used to happen last year, but would at least go away after a while....now it's ALWAYS there and it's bad. It's like the struts have no grease at all on them, and what I'm hearing is metal scraping against metal.

It's really sad though, that a problem as small as the bushings would ruin my otherwise perfect little car. And this is my 1st Mazda after owning shitloads of Honda's. I can't say I'm impressed, but if this clunk and squeak thing would go away, I would actually consider keeping the car, as I love it. But, because Mazda can't get off their asses and do something that works....I'm selling it.

Killer is, what to get. I'm not sure. THe MSP is great...but it's f;n orange. I work at a university, and I have a pic of the MSP on my computer. I have students, staff faculty come to me all day, and so far, only 1 girl and 1 guy like the color....that's out of maybe 2000 people so far. The way I figure it, it's taken me months to figure out of i like it or not, and eventually I said......if I got to try to convince myself this hard....then I don't like it.

So, I think I'm going to wait to see in April if there's a better color, and get rid of this MP3 then, unless someone offers me something good now.

wtf? I was just at dealer today and they ordered all new part number bushings and control arm links. But I dont wanna keep doing this every other month?

Are you sure its new part newf?
DAMN, well Ill have to see whats up next week when they install it.
hey newf, does the swaybar effect your body roll at all when you start to hear the clunking begin?

Production Number 454/1500

27,000 miles young now...She is almost DEAD now.

Damn, I hope this Mazda last? These things are only good for like 32,000 miles.

Are you in Canada?

its too bad Newf doesn't live in the states, that car would easily qualify for the lemon law. end of story, everyone would be happy...sorry to hear the bad news newf.

Mr. MP3...I think Newf has so many problems due to the cold in his area...if its warmer where you are you should be good. I had my junk replaced about 3 months/3000 miles ago and all is good for me

cold is the definite cause. And bumpy roads age it faster as well. My struts never squeaked much at all during the warmer summer days. Now that's its getting colder, sure enough, they do it every day. Although, when it's raining, their not so bad. That's why I have been convinced that the right lube, or grease would solve my problems. But try to convince a mechanic that. As for the bushings, their actually worse in the rain.

As for the swaybar question, all I can say is that I do notice a difference when they put new bushings on everytime, she seems tighter, but not much.

IT sucks, I love this car. One of the best I've ever owned. It's a shame a little problem like bushings would take this long to get fixed. Mazda clearly f'd up on something, and don't give a rats ass. I'm wondering, once the new parts for the mazdaspeed come out, can we try it's swaybar/bushings/ etc.

And yes, I am sure the part numbers were indeed the new ones. I checked them back then.

May i offer a suggestion?? I know i am a P5 owner and i don't really know your trouble, but why don't you try a different sway bar?? Maybe the bar is just too thick.... What about the SR motorsports bar?? or why not a Sport 20 rear sway bar?? They have them at MazdaMotorsports for $50. I know your cars are under factory warrenty and you shouldn't have to but maybe Mazda would reimburse you if you are able to fix the problem.

Just a suggestion :D

good thought which I might do after my warranty is up.

And I am from MI

So kinda cold here but not as bad as canada by any means
:)

after all of the hoopla I've gone through, I can see MAzda saying....you voided your warranty when you tried using a 3rd party sway bar.
So, no, that's not an option. I'll just get rid if the damn car. Point is, Mazda should have taken care of this by now. I've been at them since last Nov. Times up, and I'm moving on. I guess they don't care about a measly 1500 MP3's.

Just an update on this:

I know the dealership pretty well, and the manager is a friend. He hadn't heard the noises before, as the mechanics always took the car out. So, I went to him and said, wanna swap cars for a night. I dropped the the car over late that night, and he drove it to work the next morning. In the morning, she's the worse, but of course, this particular morning, she wasn't bad at all......of course.

Anyhow, she made enouugh noise for him to at least know that I wasn't going crazy. The Mechanics took the car out again yesterday and now they have 2 new struts coming as well. That's for the noise in the back. As for the front, I'm still trying to convince them there's something going on there, and even the manager heard those noises as well.

Anyhow, they got my stuff on order, and it's supposed to be only a couple of days....yeah right. I'll update again when that happens. That's if I haven't traded her by then.

hey i have a MP3 and yes that does happen to me. But i have noticed it happening when it's VERY cold and it happens when i first start up the car and drive off and when i go over a big bump. as the car warms up the squeaking noises goes away. And after a 30 min drive to school in newark, which has crazy ass bumpy roads, i here no noise when i go over a big bump. so i don't know.
