Weird CD random/shuffle operation?

When I put it in random/shuffle mode, trying to fast forward to the next song takes it out of random/shuffle mode and it just goes to the next song in the sequence. Is there a way to skip through the songs but maintain being in random mode?

Thanks.

The manual, I think, tells you to just hit the random button again to skip songs while maintaining the random mode.

Is this the stock unit or an after market unit? I just replaced my beloved Alpine HU with a Pioneer HU because I needed an auxiliary jack for my Zune.

My pioneer HU does the same thing. When in random mode, it only randomizes the next song if you allow the current song to play through to completion. If you skip, it just goes to the next song on the CD. This is INCREDIBLY ANNOYING especially if you have an MP3 CD with hundreds of tracks and potentially the same artist several times in a row. It makes the random function close to useless.

If it is an aftermarket HU, return it and pick up a unit that actually does random play properly. If it's the factory HU, I think you might be stuck with it.

Yeah, that's a terrible design. It behaves like no other stereo unit or computer or iPod. If you are in a mode like random, then skip to next song should be under that umbrella mode. I have the buttons on the steering wheel and yet if I want to keep shuffling songs, I have to press the button on the centre console. Not the best design.

yeah you have to essentially double click the random button to go to the next song randomly... indeed annoying. Push random, wait a second, push random again... this applies to cd, ipod, etc. I did however discover with my IPOD Touch 2gen when you hit next song it goes randomly like IT SHOULD.
