Vortech SuperCharger in the future?

Did anyone notice in the Aug. issue of SCC that Area 51 Fabrication is working with Vortech on a Supercharger for the Protege. I think if Vortech got behind this project & marketed this unit it would be one best models available.

Funny you should mention that

I e-mailed Vortech yesterday to see if the had any plans for a supercharger for our cars. No response yet but you never know......

I didn't see the article in SCC. Where was it?

I would want something with gains like the Civic SI system. Increases Hp 58 and torque buy 31ft-lb.

A Protege would not be a street eater but competitive

My guess would be

$2500-$3000 for the kit.

You would need an intake fo free the intake charge of any restrictions. An exhaust to free the exhaust charge of the same. May need to upgrade the Fuel Pump and injectors because more are needs more fuel. You're then looking at another $450-$500

Install if you don't do it yourself willlbe between 4 and 8 hours. Figure cheap labor at $50 bucks an hour and there is anoher $200-$400.

$5000 is not completely out of the realm of possibility.

Most kits also want you to increase the fuel injector size.

I think the Procharger Supercharger would be better cause you wouldn't have to run an oil line into the pan, the Prochargers have a self contained oil unit within the Supercharger.

I could be wrong but from my understanding, supercharger kits are usually cheaper than turbos because of less parts requirement. Yet in this case, it seems that turbos are more popular and the increased demand ought to bring prices down for the turbos.

I was going to get a SC for my 98GT Mustang, the kit was like $3200. By the time you get a custom chip burned, have someone re-calibrate your MAS, Add a larger fuel pump, injectors & some dyno runs it all adds up to @ least $5000 if you're lucky. Intercoolers just jack that price up even higher. Yeah the kit looks rather cheap, but I doubt thats all you'll need to make it run o.k
