OK all you gearheads, where in the hell is the VIN number on the engine of my car? I know where all of the others are but need the block locations. I recently changed motors but I don't know what year mine is! Mechanic was not given this data from his supplier and I want to know its history. Someone who knows, please replay asap.

OK kids, never mind. I guess this post is just too boring for anyone to answer OR they are as stumped as I am about the VIN's!

Thanks mx, but I already new those locatons. I am talking about where on the motor will I find the VIN?

that's all miata.net had for VIN's, that's a copy/paste from there

Is this a 1.8 or 1.6? The miata's have a VIN tag riveted to the oil pan. If this is a 1.8, you can tell if it is a '94 or early '95, or late '95 through '97. Just below the outer exhaust studs on the number four cylinder, there is a raised portion of the block, on the '94 and early '95 engines, this area will be tapped and plugged with a bolt, on the late '95 through '97 blocks, this area is raised, but not drilled/tapped/plugged. This area is a left-over from the late '80's Mazda rally program, where they designed this motor as a turbo motor. This area is a direct feed of coolant for a turbo that is no longer there.

It is the 1.8 of unknown vintage other than it is newer than the original power plant. I am just trying to find out all I can about it's origin and prior usage, if at all possible. Having just done this change over plus a new radiator, I will be driving this little jewel until the wheels fall off!
