why doesnt mazda develop a variable valve system like honda's v-tec? or toyota's vvti?
i'm sure it would improve efficiency, it would be smoother, and quicker too

any ideas?

the Mazda6 has VVT on both the four cylinder and six cylinder. Note that the four cylinder will be used in the upcoming Mazda3.

sounds good
cuz in the p5's class, ie. civic, corolla, they all use smaller engines which produce just as much horsepower
they're more efficient too when it comes to gas

yeah and theres a 1.5L engine with VVT from mazda that has the same HP as our FS-DEs 2.0L, 130HP.
Dont know where are they going to use it. Maybe in a small compact economic car.

S-VT is Mazda's version. NOT related to Ford's SVT team. The Miata features it, but the Protege world lacks it. S-VT stands for Sequential Valve Timing.

i was just really impressed after driving a friend's civic sir. its got 160 horsepower vtec, dont just look at the numbers, cuz it feels quicker , high revving and smooth
of course, always gotta keep the engine speeds above 4000 revs
too bad the protege5 doesnt have similar engine traits

yeah the p5's do... crazy people.... we live in northamerica.. we don't get any goodies here..

in jpn/euro they have a version of the FS engine that puts out 170HP and 132TQ it has the equiv of vtec (FSZE)

uhh... the FS-ZE does NOT have any VVT

the ONLY Mazda engines that have S-VT is the 1.5l ZL-VE, 2001+ Miata engine, the Mazda6 engines, Mazda2 engines, and the Mazda3 engines

It has higher compression, but doesn't make 170 horse...It makes 170 ps, which is a different measurement.

Read the FAQ to see how it converts...
