Cx9
I was considering a used 2012 cx9 touring but the one thing I noticed was a lack of upper LATCH tether anchors on the 2nd row seats. There are anchors at the bottom of seats but no upper ones on the seat backs ( like the highlander has)

Speaking of the highlander, I seem to be leaning towards one instead of a cx9
Can anyone help me with that decision.

Thank you

You are correct sir
No top tether anchors on cx9 second row or third row for that matter
For some it's a deal breaker as some parents will not secure baby seats with bottom tether seatbelt combo
And yes highlander has them on second row seat backs

On the '07, the tethers for the top belt are on the back of the back cushion, at the very bottom, i.e. facing 3rd row at the floor level. You loop the belt under the headrest and down. Pretty sure '12 would be the same way.

The above comment is correct. The top tethers are on the backs of the seatbacks. Thread the tether through the two headrest posts and then climb into the cargo area to attach them. Only issue is that they really crush the padding below the headrests when you tighten the tether. I put a folded blanket there to try to minimize this. Note that there are only anchors for the two outboard positions. If you use the center position you don't get a top tether anchor.
