So, while trying to install my double din unit today, i discovered a problem. Now i bought my car used, and had one single din install professional done before....but I noticed today that either the previous owners, or my installer decided to cut the bottom gray piece. (so picture the square opening of the protege...now imagine the bottom peace is cut, so you have the top piece starting just below the vents, then it goes all the way to the bottom with no other piece in the way.

Now, as you can imagine this has made it a problem for me to install my double din unit. I have the Metra dash kit and my issue is I have no idea how to support the unit. I see there are two holes on both sides of the radio but I don't have any brackets to use these....are there any places I can get brackets to support my radio? Does anyone have any other ideas so I can support my radio in its opening? Thanks.

So your radio and a/c surround pannel is all cut up and its not holding your radio correctly? If you need a new one I have one I can let go for cheap, the link is in my sig. The stock opening is for a double din so you wont need any dash kit I dont think.

Sorry if im reading what you wrote wrong but its late lol, if possible pics of what your having problems would really help:) Thanks.

EDIT: If your talking about anything further inside behind the face pannel I would go get a pic for you to see what its suposed to look like in there but I wont be home untill Thursday:(

Good idea....will do later today.

make some brackets using some backstraps to mount the double din unit... then make a custom trim plate to cover up the space around the radio

Sorry, still no photo, i was very busy today. Split, I actually have the Metra double din kit which works nicely with my unit. For now, I have my radio in with zip ties holding it up using some quick makeshift brackets. I am going back to my installer tomorrow to see if they can come up with anything. I think it'll be possible as it sits right now, looks pretty good for only using zip ties.
