You should have halogen headlights with high-beam DRLs unless you have the optional Technology Package which comes with LED headlights with Signature LED DRLs and AFS.

Is there something obvious, that you could see by looking at them, that will tell you which they are?

The easiest way is to see where are the DRLs. If they are on high-beams, you have halogen headlights.

You can have another person watching the DRLs while you’re driving slowly, or you can drive close to a large glass doors of a building and see the DRLs from the reflection.

The colour of the light. Halogen has a yellow(ish) nuance. LED is pure white.
This can’t be the correct way to tell if OP’s 2016.5 CX-5 came with the LED headlights as the previous owner could have replaced the factory H11 / HB3 halogen headlight bulbs with aftermarket LED bulbs.

"Is there something obvious, that you could see by looking at them, that will tell you which they are?" In this question there is no mention about the previous owner or the original headlights of the car, possible modification or anything. It's a simple question: just by looking at the headlights, can you tell the difference between halogen and led? Yes, you can.
